prime tanker

I have been lease on the reefer side going on 3 years now. I'm in need of a change so I am looking at the tanker side. Do we still need a hazmat rating?

 

Well.... I KNOW they only pull food-grade products, so one would think its not necessary.

 

I don't know much about the tankers but I will say that their revanue is not as high as the reefer division. My advice is if you go tanker go as a company driver not as a L/O.

 

Im not so sure. Most L/O sometimes trash talk a good game at what they make, so Im always skeptical.

The tanker guy I talked to in Pittston says he clears 1500-2000 weekly on his check and only runs 1800 to 2200 miles avg per week. He says the business is very strong on the tanker side currently with new business.

He says they got more business than they can handle, with the new facility in Ft. Wayne IN and the one they are building in Decatur, IL. Thats why they are offering .41/mile to start to company tanker drivers.

Again, I take everything with a grain a salt.... its just what he said.

 

Are they offering that to new drivers just coming on through training? May have to rethink which division I want to sign on with.

 

im not sure with l/o with prime.... just read the good info on this form an you will find more info about L/o....... there is always some kind of catch..... 7 days out 1 day off.... so you got to stay out 3 weeks at a time....but sometimes i go buy my house THERE COOL ABOUT IT........i did my 60s in ref an swaped over.... i think it was the best best decision i ever made... this year i got 58,332 on my w2 an this is my first year on the road.....prime is a great place to start as a company tanker driver!

 

They used to need hazmat for some kind of liquor, not sure if they still have that account though.

 

Thanks for that info. I plan on staying company, good to know I possibly do training in one, and move to another.

I am an old Jarhead, and I will be spending any hometime I take on my boat in Missouri, so hometime is not a factor for me. Just want to get with a trainer that wants to run, and figure out which will be a better fit for me, refer or tanker. Primes training seems to be the best, hands down.

 

Can you take your hazmat cert during orientation?
