I came in and went right to L/O ... You have to put up the $2500 down payment out of pocket. Or if you put in 10K miles as a company driver in a 30 day window or 20K miles as a team you can finance the down payment at $100 a week. You can team with an existing L/O to get your miles ... That's what I did. I ran with a friend who was already an L/O.

As far as the truck, you can lease a truck from anywhere. My home terminal is in California, I got my truck from SLC and signed my contract while I was in Seattle. The L/O recruiter will make sure you are routed to whatever terminal the truck you want is at ... foregoing that, they did offer to pay for airfare up to $350 to get me there.

    Good luck.

If you are a "business person" you don't allow creditors to hold on to your money, YOU manage your money. Sounds like you're looking for a financial babysitter.

Mgfg, I understand the point you are trying to make. However, setting up that maintenance account does not equal a financial babysitter, as you so succinctly put it. That account is something you opt to do. I don't mind doing it through Swift and IEL because until I draw from it, it is not taxable. Sure, you can set up an outside account, as long as you don't mind having it count as income and thus, count against you at tax time.

Injun, I'll pay my taxes now because I know what the tax rate is.

You are betting that either your income OR the tax rate will go down.

Do you really want to take a chance that either will happen?

It's my dough, give it to me and I'll look after it.

And that's your choice. Nobody is putting you down for that choice. I have access to that money any time I want to pay taxes on it. That's my choice.

Thanks everyone. mgfg, I think that you missed my point completely. If I set up a personal escrow account with them, then if something happens or if I have to travel, they know that the truck payment is sitting there with them. they can not touch it without my permission.

Was finally able to talk to a recruitted today, and she told me that become a company driver for about 3-4 weeks. Then go lease. Then they will finance the $2500. She also told me not to tell the company recruitters that I am going to L/P later. It will just make it harder. Once in the door, then alot easier. Pretty much what Mystic and Dick said. Just that only need actually 2-4 weeks.

Dick, I do not need my hand held. Send me my load, and if there is a problem that needs a phone call, then I will call, otherwise, I will leave him alone, and he leaves me alone. Also, this is not my first rodeo with leasing a truck. Just need to find the right company that does what they say and lets you earn a paycheck.

Injun, can you tell me what your total fixed costs are. They did say that they are running out of the Internationals fast, and right now not sure what kinda trucks in the next batch

My total fixed costs are right at $715/wk for the next two weeks, then will drop to $665/wk because my performance bond will be complete. This includes all insurance and permits.

This plus 200 gallons of fuel equals roughly $1350 depending on where you buy your fuel. At this week's fuel surcharge rate of 34cpm (rounded) plus 92cpm loaded linehaul rate (total $1.26/mi) my break-even point is roughly 1100 miles with a little bit of fuel left over. This assumes 6mpg and does not incluse the 10cpm I put aside. I usually get better fuel mileage than that.

Thanks again everyone. My application is in, now just see how long it takes for approval. The recruitter said about 2 days. One thing that I will remember, and that is something that Injun posted, before leave, make sure that everything, and I mean everything is done, before I walk away from here and go there. I do not want anything to bite me in the butt when I attend orientation. The only good thing, I only live about 29 miles from the Ohio terminal, so not that far to get back home, which also means, no hotel for me.

Injun, so I guess that a driver averaging about 3k a week, can make a pretty decent check, and that is even with putting .10 aside, and even better after the deposit and the bond.

On the "Comfort Zone", could I still expect to make some decent miles if I just say, everything east of Ohio is outa my comfort zone. That still leaves about 40 states to travel. So tired of this east coast and northeast and southeast.

SNI knows that I am looking, and yeterday they called me and are going to try everything that they can to make sure that I do not leave. Kinda told them, you are about 4 months late on that. Still in the 04 that they will not completly fix because they are getting ready to swap it out, although they do not know when, plus they say that they will work on the miles, which I have been hearing now for 3 months, and my freight lanes. The problem is that the great gods in Green Bay tell the different OC's which loads are really available, and Gary and Columbus, they get most of the East bound loads, and we are treated like Regional, even tho manyare OTR.

Welcome to the team. If I take it easy on fuel, I can put a little over $1,000 in my pocket after running 3K miles...after taking that extra $300 out for maintenance.

Be sure everything is done. Your recruiter will tell you all is good and ready, but make sure before quitting your current job. Also, let Swift know you expect to give a fair two weeks to these guys. You don't want to burn any bridges.

I'l be looking for you around... :)
