Hum, I am a new driver, and I applied to Schneider for a specific run. This was just a bit confusing to me, as the phone call I got the message they left was kind of unintelligible and I didn't hear the company name (other than the name of the specific company that was the destination of the run). I also didn't get the phone number, so I don't know how to return the phone call.

Is this the norm with Schneider in that when you apply to them online, they only considering you for a specific run? Or is there a general application you can fill out that would consider you for any available run?

My experience with Schneider recruiters has not been good. I find them condescending and insulting. I also found them uninformed.

They attempted to recruit me ( how did they get my number? ) to run regional Teaxs....and offered me .32 cpm. Said I would make lots on accessorial pay that would compensate for the low cpm. I have well over 20 years in hazmat...all perfect and a spotless CDL and PSP. I asked her " Why would I pull your hazmat when I can pull preloaded drop and hook beer for J.B. with no risk for the same .32 ? " No answer.

I asked her about her Ford gig.....black and white day cab, lift gate, pup trailer delivering parts to Ford dealers....she said that was a team. I said ok sign me up....she said no, it's a bid and you have to do 6 months system before you can bid to get on the list. Ahh yeah...ok.... team in a day cab...... okey dokey.

Is that what you guys put up with?

Its been a while since you have been with them so you might not know that some of those GREAT pumpkin patches no longer exist. They closed down both the Seville,Ohio and the Green Bay centers, and the yard in NJ is a dirt lot. While I enjoyed those with a cafeteria that had chocolate parfait, nothing else would get me to rate any of the others as great, LOL!
Pay rate for me when I hired on with 13 years experience was 39cpm and there were no raises 2 years later so I quit. Much to my chagrin, I'm finding now that many of the carriers are down in the mid 30cpm range for experienced drivers - not good considering at my peak with Crete I was up to 47cpm (4 years ago before their great management melt-down, much as SNI is undergoing now).

That's a biggie, & the "punkin'patches" (terminals) are great! Actually as I type this I'm looking real hard at another lease with SNI. Good luck![/QUOTE]

Have you been to Houston or Woodhaven lately, or the drop yard in Knoxville or Meehopony. As far as the pumpkin patches, yes, Carlisle, Dallas, Charlotte and Gary. They replaced Lodi with Columbus, the old Covenant terminal off Williams road. Lodi is still used as a drop yard.

Hi - Just saw a post you wrote about SNI - Which co would you recommend for a newbie? What is your opinion of Prime and/or TMC?
    Thank you so much.

    Hey BBMYLS2go:
If you got a minute, tell me what happened regarding the Crete management meltdown. I'm a new guy starting there later in April. Thanks.

I just got a job offer from Schneider Dedicated hauling Dollar tree loads exclusively and only in WA,OR,ID & MT getting home time every weekend.
They say 24-34 hrs home every week.
They ship out of Ridgefield,WA just 30 minutes from my home too so I'd park there with my personal vehicle and be able to get some 10 hr breaks at home in my own bed not to mention a shower at home.
Sounds like a dream come true for me,I'm driving for May right now and they have been good to me but the terminal is 90 miles from home and I'm driving 11 Western states usually out 2-4 weeks with the typical 7 days work for 1 day off.
Schneider has a better medical plan too and being over 50 that is a big plus.
Any thoughts or tips from you folks driving orange much appreciated.
    Thanks......Dean

Dean, the schedule you mention with Schneider is entirely possible and I agree, it would be a good one. The health plan here at Schneider, however, is no better or worse then you will find at any of the other larger trucking companies. Schneider is privately owned and self insured so the health insurance offered here reflects those two facts. No one in their right mind would accept a position at Schneider because of either the training or their health insurance because you can get better at any number of places. Schneider seems to be trying to reinvent itself as a regional carrier so the opportunity exists for some to get a really good schedule working here. In the end though it's always a dice toss because it will depend on the quality of the DBL who schedules you. Good luck and, by the way, you will earn every penny on that Dollar Tree account.

Thanks for the reply,I'm not afraid of the work part and consider it getting paid for staying in shape.
I've lost 30 lbs since June by busting my butt hiking and biking so it's all good.
My main reason for wanting this gig is it being so close to home and getting better home time.
I should be able to make it from my place to the Dollar Tree Dist. center at Ridgefield in about 25 minutes ,the drive to May is about 2 hours.
I've looked at Schneider's medical and it is quite a bit better than May's,especially the fact that it doesn't have a $50K cap like May which is pretty #### weak.
I'll miss driving a 2008 Pete with a 13 speed but the trade off for weekly home time and 10hr breaks at home is well worth it,that and no more driving to LA or Denver.
I-80 in the Winter blows and so does LA traffic lol.

Dean, you're welcome. Your analysis is spot on and I couldn't agree with you more. An additional benefit you should consider is you should be able to bobtail back and forth to Ridgefield as long as you have a place to park the rig. Good luck and, by the way, how did you manage to review Schneider’s medical plan benefits?

    Y2K and one37 Thank this.
