Well, I just spoke to the Swift recruiter out of Columbus, Ohio. My application to Swift's cdl program was approved and she wants to set me up for Millington for February 21 or 28th. I did not play the "hiding game" regarding my DMV or criminal background ('94 misdemeanor). She stated that my 5 year driver record, or the misdemeanor shouldn't/won't be an issue. I stated to the recruiter that I wanted a definite so that I did not get down there, complete the program and then Swift says: Well, we can't hire you because of your DMV (or) background." If I have learned anything from TTF, it's "don't take what a recruiter says as the final word." She states there is only one opening (for applicants from my area) for either date, so I need to make a decision as soon as I can. Hah...the pressure is on!
She reiterated what recent Swift graduates have stated:
-Training 17 days $3900 tuition plus $500.00 lodging.
-Swift does payroll deduction of $37.50/week for 1-13 months once I am solo, then starts paying you back tuition reimbursement for 14-26 months.
-States are hiring for flatbed for Ohio residents (drivers).
The time has come for me to "put up or shut up." Either attend a cdl or go to Swift who will take me late February. Anyone want to give me some "pointers, etc. about Swift that I haven't already asked in the open forum, please do so. I would appreciate it.

if they are willing to take you, then go....just remember all that we have said here...
-
Hey go for it man...you could do worse......so what the hell.....get your year in and if it isn't your cup of tea then put aps in elsewhere...YOU HAVE TO START SOMEWHERE..
-
If it lends any comfort...there are already several law suits against Swift about coercing a prospective student into their academy with prior knowledge (by Swift recruiter) that due to background or driving history the student would not qualify for employment by Swift.
Get everything in writing, signed by someone with authority....which technically is anyone you would speak to who isn't a janitor or rent-a-cop security type. Get this document and send it home to a safe place. Just CYA!123456 Thanks this. -
If you spoke with Kris, then I can tell you this: She is a very honest person in general, and has a reputation TO NOT GET PEOPLE IN THE DOOR AND THEN SEND THEM HOME. Swift has been known to do this in the past, and everything I have heard, along with my personal experiences with her...she will flat out tell you no if she knows you won't make it. She always says, "this isn't personal, it is business...and if you choose somebody else, or we choose another applicant, it isn't personal."123456 Thanks this.

Yes, it was Kris I spoke with. Now, where is that coin? Heads Trainco, Tails Swift. No... wait! It will be Heads...Swift, Tails...Trainco!

If it lends any comfort?! Geesh "varmit", thanks for making me feel at ease :smt075

Regarding Swift and their policies and reputation...
They really used to have a bad reputation, but I have since heard that they did get busted a bit for that sort of thing, and have cleaned up their act with the implementation of CSA.
Good luck to you which ever route you choose. I fully understand your reasoning for wanting to get going asap. And, for what it's worth....Swift is my backup plan if for some reason BTC falls through. I don't think they are nearly as bad as Werner, and even better in some regards than some of the other big carriers. -
Hey Otter is just telling it like it is....or did you not get the memo

Swift has a bad history....Illegal alien went to their school in Tennessee and his twin brother and him teamed for a while......using the same license ....until they hit a school bus.
You were a swift cheerleader around here telling us to lay off of them and now you're not sure......dude make up your mindotherhalftw Thanks this. -
You can't really judge them based on what has happened 3-4 years ago. Things are much different, and you can't ASSuME that a mega carrier is bad becuase they are a mega carrier.
