I have United Health, does'nt cover dental but it is really one of the b est because you pick your own Dr. and having had Throat problems I'm glad I could. Went to a Dr named Ingrid Iwanow, Harvard educated. Thought she would be a Russian wrestler but looked like a model.

most (not all) of the cti drivers I have been around are not trained properly to load or unload cryos safely....esp. when it come to oilfield work most of these guys are clueless...they work for substandard wages and are brought in to cross picket lines during plant or customer strikes...average cryo drivers are making 60-70k a year I have heard these guys are making around 40-50k and forced to cross picket lines into hostile areas...not what Id want to do

I work for the Linde Group. We are the largest industrial/medical gas producer in the world. And no, I am not a recruiter, just a pretty satisfied driver. Our drivers in the West are averaging between 70-80K per year, even in a bad economy. Work is always steady (sometimes a little too steady), health and welfare and retirement are excellent. Company policy is 5 on/2 off. You start working nights and weekends and bid your shifts as your seniority increases. We have a very liberal vacation/sick leave and paid personal days policy also. I have seen some of the CTI drivers and am not too impressed. A lot of them swallowed that lease purchase plan CTI was promoting only to find out that it's a lot like all the other "fleece purchase plans" out there. All in all, while not perfect, Linde is a very decent place to work. You can make a very good living and actually have a life. We are doing some hiring, if you would like to check try Linde Group North America/careers/driver careers. Since I can't post a link, just Google the company website. And one more thing, Linde pays you $2000 a year just for NOT having ANY accidents. Pays a grand every six months as a bonus.

They are two 3/4" mild steel barrels with the void space filled w/ pearlite and a vacuum pulled on the void to make the 'thermos bottle' more efficient. The 'caps' that stick up along the top are held on by the vacuum. If you see frost on the outer shell the tank is loosing vacuum and is not as efficient. Liquid Carbonic [now out of business] used to spot a Nitrogen tank in Manhattan so Con-Ed could 'freeze' the transformer oil in some of the high voltage underground lines to make repairs...They always sent the trailer w/ the worst vacuum so they could sell Con-Ed more product, we'd ship a load every day or so to re-fill the spotted trailer.
They are expensive enough to be rebuilt a couple times and usually have a long lifespan since they usually don't haul products that are corrosive and develop a thickness problem like a chemical tanker. They told the drivers to report any surge as it was a sign that the baffles were breaking loose, a sign that it was time to think about a rebuild.Last edited: Jan 22, 2011

We do a lot of local. We cover all of Southern Calif., All of Arizona, Nevada to Elko, Bay area with liquid hydrogen and several times a year I'll run up to Vancouver, WA and do several loads to Intel in Hillsborough, Ore. We layover in nice hotels (Marriott usually) and we get $40 a day in meal money. I think I live in the same area you do and we are looking for 2 more drivers in Industry. Local 986...meh...Although just last June, we did sign a pretty nice 5 year contract. The last year of it, we will be pretty much equal to UPS. We are at $22.70 an hour now..Of course, you gotta drive like those slow Von's trucks !! But for a union house, we don't have all that tension you see in some barns. Everybody (including our managers) are real cool and treat us like we actually have a functioning brain. Our Driver Appreciation stuff lasts like all week and management cooks for us and I have more Linde luggage, flashlights, clothing and all the other stuff they constantly give drivers than I can shake a stick at. Plus, they constantly feed us...the drivers rooms have everything from pizza to Famous Daves to pastry several times a week. Never ate so much at a job in my life..And I won't even go into the once a month paid safety meetings with a 9 course catered breakfast..No kidding, it's weird..Last edited: Jan 22, 2011

Ahh..."Liquid Carbonics" (formerly Chicago Bridge and Iron)..I used to work for them out of their former Irwindale plant. When they sold to AGA (which started the whole "CTI" stuff) our days were numbered, but it was fun while it lasted..And your right about expensive. New Loxco trailers start at around a half million, liquid hydrogen around $750K...Roll one of those puppies at Linde and you are GONE...Immediate termination.Last edited: Jan 22, 2011
