The only response from Flying J is that it is complicated, and that response is unofficial but that sign was posted on all of the diesel pumps at the Davenport, IA truck-stop saying they would no longer accept Visa as a form of payment for diesel fuel after May 24,2007. Wonder what happened with Visa?

Nothing "happened" to VISA. Except it probably competes with something Flying J wants to do. Flying J is pretty much "Propritary". They figure if they can do something themselves and "keep" the money, they will. Just like they did with Comdata. They BOOTED Comdata to start their own "third-party" billing service. They blamed it all on an increase in Comdata Charges, but Comdata says different.
Also similar to Flying J using regular Broadcast Television and inserting their own commercials or commercials to "their" customers.

Flying J HAS applied to be a "Financial Institution" and this may be what would conflict with VISA.

With the cash discount the J offers you wouldn't catch me using the visa for fuel. With the price of fuel what it is, every penny adds up.

Does this mean Master Card is next on their hit list?

I doubt it any time soon. MC is the operator of their debit card.

It could be the fee's the Visa card company charges for the transaction. Many fee's from banks have skyroceketed over the past several months.

The problem I see with this is for people like me, who are probably in the minority. I don't use credit cards for anything. I also don't like carrying much cash around, and I rely on my debit card to make most of my purchases, which happens to be a "visa".

While this will prevent people in my situation from making purchases at their store, they most likely won't notice it financially, because like I said, being a non credit card carrier puts me in the minority, LOL.
