I was at Oakley for about nine months pulling a dump. They are a good company and have one of the best safety records in the business and seem to have a lot of customers and work I was always loaded.
What do you want to know? -
Seen a Cornhusker trailer split completely in too from a wreck or something sitting at Wilkins Truck shop in Tonkawa, OK this last week. Bill have you heard anything about a wreck.
One of the outlaw grain haulers here in Oklahoma (Heads Trucking) had a bad one this last week. I am sure he was heavy as they usually are he was doing somewhere in the 60 mph range in a 40 mph zone going threw town south of me and ran into the back of a flatbed truck. That is one I would like to see go bye, bye. -
Local guy bought a new Timpte hopper, it is a 3 axle and all the axles stay on the ground with spring ride. Haven't talked to him but why the spring ride, is their a weight savings? How much can you haul with that set up, 90 grand?
-
Spring would be a little lighter but not enough that I would want to pull one. Three axle would work better in Nebraska, can haul more weight there. Keeping busy?

I made two rounds this week to Houston and back and had a pretty good week until I had a 78 year old man run into the back of me and totaled his pickup and messed up the back of the trailer I was pulling. I was on a four lane, real light traffic and the sun was coming up. I was in my lane and pulling into the customers location when he ran into the back of me at about 50 mph he rode off to the hospital and I visited with the DOT for two hours but I had everything in order and got a CVSA sticker for the truck but the trailer was put out of service due to accident. Someone not paying attention sure screws up your day.

3 axle trailer in nebr. 90000#
wheathauler Thanks this. -
Put trailer out of service that stinks. I would suppose would have to be towed somewhere to get fixed. The sad thing is the car driver will probably get a lawyer and try to sue. Either that or a lawyer will contact him. It doesn't matter who was at fault when it comes to trucks.
Hope next week goes better for you. -
Sorry to hear about your wreck Big John that sucks. I was curious about oakley overall as a company. Did you pull their trailer or did you have your own? Did you run all 48 or stay mainly in the midwest and how often were you home?
-
Haven't heard about any big wrecks, but it doesn't surprise me that a cornhusker broke in two. I used to have a '95 model (didn't really want it, but I needed a trailer and the price was right) that would twist and turn whenever you went over any kind of un-level ground. She started to crack out, and I would have her welded back up, but she kept cracking in the same spots. That trailer went bye-bye after that.
Doesn't surprise me about Heads...I agree - that's one I wouldn't mind seeing go away. Their CSA score looks like a christmas tree with all the red colors on it! But I doubt they gives a rat's ### about it though.
