I cannot help with most of that. From what I have seen the lease is hit or miss.
If you have a good dispatcher and a good relationship with that dispatcher, you can do ok. Make a little more money than a company driver.
Though one decent breakdown will ruin your year, then you will make less than a company driver.
On the truck end. That is one UGLY truck.
They are set up well for the driver though. And if they are spec'd correctly and have the new Detroit engine they get very good fuel economy.
And I have yet to hear about any serious mechanical issues.

8mpg sounds high, but I dont have a freightshaker. As for the idea of lease, plan on making about the same maybe 2 cents more per mile when you compare l/o to company on a fair comparison. Also budget for when you go home. I dont normally have a negative check, but I dont get much when I go home. Any other questions just ask. -
It must be 8mpg empty! That is high! Hell, 7mpg is good!
Like Chrome said, your success is going lie in your dispatchers hands. Central for the most part is pretty straight forward about their lease. I haven't heard about any deception there. Try to find a truck with about 200,000 miles on it. You definitely don't want a brand new one. Trust me on that one! Let someone else pay to get the bugs worked out.
"I wad told by owner ops when I started my lease that I could go be a company driver again after the lease is completed or I find someone to take over the lease. But that depends on your service record though."
It's been awhile since we drove for Central so I am sure some things have changed. When we were there though you were not allowed to go back to company after leasing. -

I am in wvc and would definitely love to have you as my trainer. I am from Oregon, but am all growed up and don't plan to go home until my upgrade, so, I promise not to whine about it. I always try to set my students right from the start. I dont want to see them make mistakes that I see others make. They just gave me my ld goin back thru slc. I hope I will have time to get a student. If not they will have to repower. Either way, I dont mind. I just do what they need done.

Hey LadyK, that was just the policy back then. Once you lease they make it so that you are really locked in. You can't just cancel out your lease. You either have to sell it to another driver in the company or if you walk away from the lease they charge you out the butt, ding your credit, and ding your DAC. It is kind of understandable though. It is super tough being an owner operator and if they didn't have these rules everyone would be turning trucks in left and right. Most drivers see a brand new shiny truck with no money down and don't realize what they are getting into. I am sure that if they didn't have these rules every joe blow that walked through the door would jump in these trucks and turn them in a month later.
