You hit the nail on the head Nik.... played music back in the day instead of going to college! That was until marriage and raising a son!
Thanks for the tips on regional runs. I figure I'll do the schooling on my own and then apply at one of the starter companies. I read about Werner and Stevens and also looked at KLLM Transport. To be honest I'm figuring the first year or two will be quite the task but think I'm up to the task! I've never had a job that didn't require some dues.... there's always a sacrifice if you really want something. Honestly it's got to be better than getting old in some office and thinking "if only I had tried".... you just never know where you'll end up! Again... thanks for the input! Much appreciated!

It was tough letting my business die.... but without work what else could I do? I was fortunate to get the job offer for the last year. That got our son through his senior year of college and allowed us to pay the bills down and get some of the bills paid off.
As far as my wife.... she's been at the same hospital for twenty plus years and has been working on her masters degree. She's pretty well set on her career path.... honestly this is the first time in my life I've been unemployed for more than a few days. Scary!
-
BTW.... thanks Lady K for sharing! I know it doesn't mean much, but it helps knowing others are in a simular situation. I just hope we all see better days around the corner.

Oh I know the scary!! We are working on savings right now and I'm praying it will last until both of us are out on the road... working on getting things straightened away at home (daughter and her husband moving into the house - MIL into Assisted Living)... BIG change!! We are leaping with faith here

An old saying - - "There is no such thing as a BAD day; some are just better than others." - - we both have seen better days it sounds like

Well, I've been reading the forum for a few weeks and learning from the vast amount of information and enjoying some of the posts by the characters on here. Anyway, I was about to make a choice on what CDL school to go to in the next few days when I received one of those dreaded phone calls we all deal with eventually.
My dad had a stroke yesterday and is in the hospital. So it 's looking like things may have to wait on my "career change" until we get this all figured out. Until that happens, there's no sense in me enrolling and finding out I won't be able to complete school.
Honestly.... I don't think you're ever ready to face these issues. Heck, It was difficult enough when my mom passed away. But my dad has done pretty good the past 10 plus years since that happen. The tough part is he's retired military and can be pretty stubborn about change in his life.
I guess on a positive note.... I'll just continue working on getting "educated" about the trucking industry and the lifestyle from you guys and gals and hope for the best regarding my dad. It's still my intention to move forward with this career change and make the best of the situation.
Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks to all of those who have welcomed a "wannabe" like myself. I surely appreciate what you do, who you are, and your willingness to share your knowledge! -
Oh <insert cuss word here>!! Not fun to deal with (my Dad also had a stroke)... sending prayers and good thoughts - hopefully you have a support system (friends/family) that can help. Definately stay connected here!!strat57 Thanks this.
