I wanted to know if Roehl fires you for getting into a critical accident in whick nobody got hurt except a car. Especially if they took your truck away a month ago and are still deciding whether on not to keep you on.

Depends on a lot things, it's possible they'll keep you on. If you had no other issues, no verbal or written warnings, no determination period prior to this you have a shot. They'll have a safety review deal, they usually drag on for a long time. Most people get tired of waiting and start looking for work somewhere else. I know that retention is a number that they focus on more now than they did before, but without knowing the whole situation it's hard to tell.

Here is the situation. He did get stuck in a ditch before the accident but he did not get into trouble for that. He has not gotten any written warnings or anything like that. What happened with the accident was when he got to the intersection even though he looked both ways he somehow missed the car behind him and his trailer accidently pushed the front of the vehicle but no one was hurt. The police did not give him any tickets and both parties were very good about it. The last time we called safety at Roehl they said that they were viewing it as a critical accident because he admitted that he did not see the other person. He has been looking for other truck driving jobs but with an accident so recent it takes three years before anyone will hire him again. If you need any more information I would be more than happy to give it. I appreciate all the information you have given thus far.:biggrin_25521:

hmm, I wouldn't think that they would let him go for something like this. If he gets along well with his FM have him touch base every week or so. His FM may not have answers, but they can ask Sara or John for an update on his status. It may take some time, but I really don't think he'll be let go. I could be wrong, but I think they'll do a determination period, drivers skills evaluation, and probably redo the Roehl Way. That is what I think you'll see.

Thank you so much for the information that makes me feel a lot better. My dad does get along with his FM. He called him last week but he usually calls every other week. He did talk to Sara but she said they had not made a decision yet and that they were treating it as a critical accident.

My dad called back again this week after he called on friday and they told him that the person who made the decision was out until Monday. So we called back today and his FM is indicating to him that they might be taking his truck and he might want to come and clear out his stuff. He was also saying he had no idea how much longer it was going to take and that they were still making a decision and it could be awhile. It's already been way over a month. We are begining to wonder if they are really going to call him back or if they are stringing him along. Do you think that there's hope?

sorry, but i think he won't be driving for them any longer. they may be waiting for him to quit so they don't have to pay unemployment. so don't quit, wait for them to give him the ax, then he may be able to collect unemployment benefits.

Thank you for letting me know. We figured it was something like that but we weren't sure. If that is true though isn't his career shot for the next three years? So far everyone we've talked to says the accident has to be at least three years old and I can't seem to find any other companies who will hire him with the accident. Would you happen to know of anybody who would?

let us know how things turn out, typically if a driver at Roehl is not able to work for more than 7 days they ask for the truck back. doesn't matter what the situation is, as long as it's not earned home time. This could really mean anything, if it goes the direction of a termination have him ask if there is a review board he can state his case to.
