shifting w/o clutch

Yeah, but its part of the training. I can remember some nine-speeds that I could float with my pinkie, they were that well used...err....smooth!!

 

Why all the training companies use auto's now.

 

I agree. I was taught from the beginning to let the truck work for you and not you working the truck.

 

I have been driving for a long time. seems like every truck is different, just like a new girlfriend. I had a old gmc Astro with a 318 Detroit and a 10 speed. this baby would hit the governor at 3200rpm most of the hp was at 2800rpm. if you was shifting at 1800rpm you were " dragging the engine down " and had no power but if you changed gears at 2800rpm if would fall right in the next gear..nice and smooth. now some newer trucks you have to let the rpm's come down before you can change gears.

But The best advice is to practice. there is no one formula that works for all trucks. in
general it's like ridding a bike! someone can try to explain it to you.. but your still going to fall ( grind the gears ) but you will learn.
