Some outdated experience, need advice.

    Hello guys,

    Recently I have been thinking about going back over the road, and I have a few questions/concerns.

    First off I have no clue if my previous company left any bad comments on my DAC report, as it has not come in the mail yet. For the time being I am holding off on filling out any applications in case a dispute needs to be made.

    Secondly I have a recent speeding ticket as of 01/01/2010 for either 15 or 16 over the limit on my motorcycle. I am not sure if this is disqualifies me for a position or only makes it harder.

    Lastly, I only have 9 months of experience which happened from 07/2007-03/2008. According to the companies websites I have been viewing, most seem to say experience within the past three years is acceptable. I am wondering if I would need to go back to go with a trainer or go back to school and if this would hinder me finding a job, as the dead on three year mark is coming up.

    For reference I'm not too worried about what company I get hired on with at this point, as I only want the experience to move on to a better company. If I need to hire on with Swift, Werner, Knight, or any of the other low end companies for a few months, I'll do what needs to be done and bide my time until a better opportunity presents itself.

    The thing I see being the biggest roadblock is the time out of the truck. I'm personally just over a year (11/09) out of the truck and finding that that's too long for quite a few companies. You will probably need to take a refresher course. Some companies offer those - can't think of who but I saw one specifically mention that just the other day.

    The speeding ticket is going to be a problem. 15 or 16 mph over, that's quite fast.

    You MAY find a company that will take you without a refresher but you'd almost certainly need to go back out with a trainer.

    If you're serious about going back OTR, then I'd get me a big cup of coffee, pad of paper, & pen, and sit down and just start calling every company you can find. Before you do that, if you have a truck stop close by, head on down there and grab a bunch of those recruiting magazines that are by the fuel islands for a ready list of companies. While you're there, you may wanna talk to some of the drivers fueling up too, they may have some info for you.

    I'd say you can find a job, it'll be a challenge, but there's a job out there with your name on it.

    Well, I figured I'd post an update.

    I got my DAC today, it's clean no moving violations no incidents or accidents. According to my DAC I'm rehireable with KLLM upon review, I quit resigned/quit and my work record was satisfactory.

    I guess my next step is taking the plunge and calling companies with terminals in Phoenix, as I do not want to get stuck in Fontana considering I live in Tucson.
