International no longer offers gliders. I did have a customer who had Freightliner gliders, they were 09's with reman N14 in them, the weirdest thing I ever saw. I checked the door jam. The only Freightliner related sticker I saw was some patent info and "Incomplete Vehicle" The rest of the assembly stickers were from some private manufacturing firm. I asked the driver how they built these and got around emissions and he was just a company driver and didn't know, but he gets asked all the time LOL!

On truck paper theres several 08's and 09's with pre-E motors. So it can be done... for now anyway's.
Glider kit - New 2007 Freightliner Columbia CL 120 or other CL, C- 15 Cat eng. 475 HP (pre emission), ............... -
pittsburgh power is selling gliders with pre-emission engines, engine is built to what you want/need, I saw the article in that movin out mag at a truckstop
-
What I would be looking for in the not so near future would be a cab and frame to put my motor, trans and rears on/in. Not a turnkey unit.

Im a IH tech as well and I agree. Ive had to remove the head on the 2008 engine. After removing everything on the sides, top, and back, i was able to remove the head. Took me about 2 weeks from start to finish for a blown out head gasket. The high pressure turbo failed and allowed boosted air from low pressure turbo into the crankcase. On a plus note, I have discovered it is possible to remove the dog box in a ProStar. You just have to remove the lower panels, shifter, passenger seat, and the carpet. What a pain in my ### to do.

No not really, i have a 2012 westernstar lowmax glider on order right now.
It is a rolling glider set up with everything minus engine and trans.
The truck will come from factory pre-wired for a 70 pin cat ecm.
I have a fresh 2ws 550 and new 15 speed waiting in the shop when the truck gets here in march.
They will set it up for what ever engine back to 1998 epa weather it be cat cummins or detroit.
the rest is just like ordering any new truck, skys the limit.
Heck they will even put a three color custom paint job of your design on it at the factory!
With all the horror stories i here every day with the new engines, i find it odd more poeple don,t go this route.
The truck has to have two componets missing to be a glider, so you could get the factory to install moter and trans and get it delivered with no rears also.2013Maxx and The Challenger Thank this. -
You'd be surprised at how many don't know you can do this.
I wasn't sure about the year or how old you could go with a the motor. I had heard something, maybe you can help, but there was talk about only being able to use a older motor in a glider if a truck was wrecked but motor was salvageable.
You heard anything about that? -
Well i can,t speak for the others(pete ,FL ect...)
but WS don,t seem to care what engine you want in the truck. You simply order the way you want and they build it. The truck comes from the factory with a wooden box strapped to the frame. In that box is everything needed to put the truck together. Things like air intake piping, air to air bellows, clamps all hoses ac compreser, power steering pump, jack shaft ect ect..........
They need to know what engine is going in the truck and it is shipped with prep kits and wirered for that engine. including motor mounts and tranny mounts. This was one of the deciding factors why i went with WS, all the other makes that was all extra you had to buy afterwards. Westernstar makes it alot easier for the do it your selfer.
You even tell them what tranny you got and they have a prep kit for that also, shift tower, knob. linkage ect ..... comes in the box with truck.
Go down to your local dealer and check it out, its really no diffrent then ordering a compleat new truck. As long as you get a salesman that has sold a few gliders and knows what he,s doing. If you tell the guy you want to order a glider and he gives you the deer in the headlights look,...... just go somewhere else.
