Another Super-Trucker w/video of his blizzard wreck

This "dumb Swifty" wouldn't have chained up either. But then, again, this "dumb Swifty" would have hailed him on the CB to ask whether he was okay...and would have been monitoring the CB to see where the end of the storm is and whether it improved or worsened ahead. I do not throw iron to get into a mess. I throw iron to get OUT of a mess. Thus far *knocks on wooden head* I have not had a need to pull my decorative chains off their racks, where they live purely for the entertainment of DOT bears.

Call me a "whimp" if you want to, but if I think conditions are too bad to drive, I won't drive. "Conditions" includes not only snow, wind and ice, but ijits who plow through s*** like that, get into collisions and call other people "whimps" for opting to sit it out. I don't have time to waste getting tangled up with PREEfessional Steering-Wheel Holders with high testosterone levels and low brain cell counts who consider it "whimpy" to just stay put.

I would have started driving in the initial conditions seen at the beginning of the video. But I would have checked the weather channels for what lay ahead of me and the SDDOT website for road conditions and closures first.

Here's my .02.... If you have to ask yourself whether it's worth going for it...It's probably not.

Another thing told to me years ago, and still holds true today "There's nothing in that trailer that they can't make more of". So is it really worth risking your life for?????? They'll just ship another load in a couple of days.

 

How many of you actually realize that everytime you climb in that truck, turn the key and hook it in gear you're risking you life? Probably not many!

One of the mills I haul out of has a sign at the end of the drive, it says..."you are now entering the most dangerous place in the world, the public highway".

Personally I think alot of people are making a much bigger deal out of this than what should be.

They are big to critisize others without thinking about their own actions. Sure, we all can get on the internet & pretend that we are perfect.... But in actuality those who pretend to be perfect & the ones who are text while driving, surfing the internet while driving, playing with video camera's while driving.... And so on!

I guess when you got a slow truck, you have time to play while driving.

 

Folks surf the internet while driving on their laptop??Really,I"ve seen oral sex,reading the bible,and everything in between,but laptop too now..

 

At least for me, it isn't the fact he erred.

It's the fact that he's Joe Super-Trucker through the video and seems to be more impressed with his skills at reusing a broken antenna than he is concerned about his lack of judgement.

I seriously doubt anyone on TTR believes they're perfect. And my wife assures me that I sure ain't!

 

I"m not perfect either,as 2 ex-wives have made that point clear to me...,I though sometimes wonder if I SHOULD make a run for it,and if I were 20 yrs younger probably would in a storm,but the THOUGHT of gettin stuck out there,or much,much worse,usually keeps me parked.,and I dont hide when I see the first snowflake..Brokers and dispatchers are at the bottom of the totem pole when I make these decisions..

 

Yessir...not the first off, nor the last. And I admit that growing up and living my entire life in somewhat warmer areas of the country always makes me think twice before someone else might...

 

In weather like that, all trucks are capable of running too fast. Even though mine is governed at 68, do you honestly think I'll be going 68mph in that? Of course, there are some who equate governed speed with driver skill. The lower the governed speed of the vehicle, the less skill the driver has? Seriously? That is nothing more that snobbish elitism at its highest level.

I will refrain from directed comments. If you feel offended by what I just posted...well, the shoe must fit.

This video had nothing to do with skill or speed or even conditions. It had to do with common sense and is a vivid demonstration of the lack thereof.
