Friday night while in a rest area on I-20 near Madison Ga I tried to set my Intl 9400's I-Con failed and almost froze my butt off, thankfully I had a pair of long johns. Last night at the Flying J in Ft Chiswell Va I got some help in setting the system and with 2 exceptions had a nice warm 7 hour nap. Only problem I had was when the I-Con system cranked the truck the first time. I was 1/2 asleep and almost jumped out of the sleeper ready to fight. My question is simple, is there a way to get used or drown out this cranking?

You'll get used to it.. I have, but then again I can sleep in a code 3 ambulance
-
Set it to the temp you want, then go rent a room, the cranking won't bother you at all.
-
Isn't there a fuse you can pull to disable ICON?
-
It sucks, I never got used to it. For about the first couple days you will wake up every time thinking someone is stealing your truck. After about a month of this crap, I figured out a way to confuse the truck and keep it running.

What IS I-CON??
-
Don't know about his company, but mine monitors the idle time.. icon doesn't bother me any more than the reefer
-
Idle control.. it turns the turn on and off to maintain temp and batteriesBumpy Thanks this.

I drive for USA Truck and yes they monitor my idle time. As I was writing this I happened to be in my qualcomm status menu and noticed my idle time was 19.48 % I think the company standard is 30 % for I-Con and 5% for APUs. I have only had this tractor since friday, its my first tractor and according to my company I will get my regular tractor either in west memphis or Van Buren next week. This is provided I can get out of Allentown Pa. I got here today thinking I could deliver, my scheduled appointment was for 9AM in the AM but I was told to come on when I called. I got turned away at the gate and told my appointment was for 2AM on the 2nd.
Now I am hoping my Fleet Manager can get me the hell out of here before the storm hits.

ICON is the Cummins version of Detroit's Opti-Idle.
It's basically an automated system to start up and shut down the engine to maintain battery voltage, coolant temp, and cab temperature. At a set point, I think it allows constant running, if it is cold enough, to avoid problems related to cold startups and shutdowns.
I have never had the experience of using either one, it seems mostly a large fleet option to bother using them. It was disabled in any truck I drove where it was so equipped.
