Well I can finally wiegh in again on this .. remember I've leased , driven company and had my own authority ... so I have a lil experience and am not talking out my ...
I've been too busy hauling freight .. over 3 k a week consistent
How much money do you want to make ? Do you want fuel card and a large base of freight? Or do you want to lease to guys who have a few trucks and get loads of load boards ? Ask them .. do they have direct customers ?
If you want to make the most possible you need to get your own authority and customers or possibly fond one or 2 brokers to keep you running .. stay away from chw
If you just want to make a decent living and pay less for insurance buy have a huge base of freight , loads stacked on you 2 or 3 deep then hook up with a big carrier . Yeah I know .. I don't want to be a number .. well the only numbers I care about is in the bank
I clear 1500 to 2000 a week after fuel insurance and my baseplates are paid
Insurance on my 50k tractor is 287 a MONTH
I can live on that .. I work 3 weeks on 1week off .. hardly ever talk to dispatch , before um empty I have a load ... sometimes 2 .. the dispatcher knows where ill run .. one time I got a load to Pennsylvania and he quickly called Me and said just load and take to OH I know you don't run there , then I had a preloaded for GA. I do well over 85 percent drop and hook so it works for me
If you need the big ride with your name on it and want your truck number to be 1 then grab your own authority and go for it ! Stay smart and you will do well , I did
So where am I leased now ? Schneider
Clown all you want but t works and I'm doing well

    Don't ... and I repeated don't .. but a truck with out driving experience

Look for an article from me in OOIDA mag soon .. back to trucking see ya

You don't want the customer to see where their freight is ? You have thousands of dollars worth of stuff and the technology to track it is 200 .. hmmm if it was Kobe is track it too. I don't want to be tracked ect ect .. sorry welcome to the future ... what if you truck was stolen , I bet you would like that satellite then
What are you doing out there you don't want them knowing about ?
If you can't make money running legal 5 days a week them you should find a new company

This is why I'm glad to see csa and future legislation in the works pass
We are our own worst enemy

I have worked for Swift in the past. I have also worked for an outlaw company with a Qualcomm. They work different ways. Swift would let me run 300 to 400 miles a day and say I didn't have enough hours to continue running or they would say I had to match up what I did and where I was with the Qualcomm. It's impossible to do. Swift is impossible to work for. Just my Opinion. I don't hate the satellites. Just the way they are used. I don't hate tech and the new wave. I love it actually. Again I just don't like the way it's used.

I talked to a Schneider driver in Missouri the other day. He was at Proctor and Gamble sitting beside me waiting on his load. We got to talking and he asked how I liked being an O/O and how was it without the satellite. I said I wouldn't have it any other way myself but I doubt it will always be that way. I see the day every truck will have one. Anyway he seemed depressed and I asked him why. He said he got a call from safety asking why he had a "hard braking". He couldn't remember at first then remembered a car had pulled changed lanes in Chicago and cut him off. He had to brake hard to keep from having a collision. The safety guy said he would have to be more careful and next time he might get points because he was putting a note on his file that he had been talked to and warned.

I know me and my attitude...Yes I have a piss poor attitude..... Anyway. This is where I would tell the safety guy to shove it and never call me again with a BS rant. If he continued I would unleash on him. I've done it before over crap like that.

Without the satellite then this would never happen. Without the satellite then no one would know my idle time. Without the satellite then they can't see how fast I'm driving or when I'm stopped or when I'm running an hour overtime so I can be at the shipper on time because the T/A was running late getting my oil changed. Basically what I'm saying is I'm a safe driver. I'm experienced. I don't need a babysitter and a daddy looking over my shoulder.

I would be with Schneider in a second if I knew they would leave me alone and let me do my own thing. I called them and the lady said I could run what I wanted and go home when I wanted and it sounded exactly like what I wanted. Problem is they would install a satilite and people net in my truck......GRRRRR. Still it's tempting.

Well if you have a poor attitude then steer clear of Sni .. we have enough poor attitudes
I can tell you I have never gotten a call from them on anything they do ask you to comply with logging and paperwork rules buy as an ic I'm off on my own. But then again I follow rules
My experience anyway .. guess it depends on what oc you pull for and if you do mileage or chioce, I never talk to my ica he knows what I want and if I have a special request I get it.
I'd rather more people go elsewhere .. but I have multiple trucks so I sometimes worry Sni will keep em busy
    So far ok ..
If you go with a company make sure you ask what they haul and where they get their loads , percent or mileage ..
Also get their csa score .. better the score less bs in the coup even as a oo
Remember - a recruiter is just that .. they will be nice and tell you anything
Whatever you choose .. do you homework remember its your business do no favors for anyone
Be safe I wish you well

I run 600 plus a day .. remain legal and no governed truck
I prefer e logs now with drop and hooks no need to fudge
Even if you did want to there's ways around them too ..
If you ever run them you'll see ;)

I've done both .. back on mileage .. I avg more miles although percentage you may make a little more .. but its just that .. percentage so cheap crap you make less than a dollar a mile if you get into an area with no frieght
I don't like to stop and login in ect ... just like getting loads across my computer . Personal preference is all
I averaged more per mile on chioce but sat a bit more
I don't sit now .. in fact I have a hard time keeping up sometimes and that is that way I like to run

You made more money on percentage yet you went back to milage so you don't have to sit? Am I missing some thing?

Avg a few cents per mile don't make up for sitting for 2 days
They don't have a lot of freight on the board as that program is new
You also don't get paid detention or deadhead
As that program grows I anticipate it will get better and more popular and Sni will post more loads its still considered a pilot program
I hate live loads and I can deadhead up to 500 a week so I like mileage
Doestnr mean you won't like percentage .. they are def going in the right direction

Don't get me wrong .. there are draw backs of a large company .. but id rather deal with that then run for the mom and POP outfits with getloaded loads. Things are slow right now so I had to make the chioce that worked for me ... l work 3 weeks on 1 off so I like to drag in 2 k plus in those weeks
I also like the cheap fuel and disc tires thru Sni

To clarify ... you get paid detention and deadhead on mileage ... on chioce or percentage you get detention after 4 hrs.. mileage its 75 an HR after 2 hrs
But like I said ... drop and hook baby ;)
