fuel surcharge per mile

the drivers who are on Percentage with my company still get 100% of the fuel surcharge

 

all o/o and lease drivers milage or percentage at my company get the same fsc (right now) 35cpm

 

My recent loads have been paying about 39cpm FSC.

it depends on the shipper. some of our loads, the shipper pay's a % of the gross, some pay a flat rate based on mileage. Nucor steel used to pay by % they now pay a flat rate based on mileage. I don't like the mileage pay compared to % of gross pay. when they paid % the more weight I hauled, the more the f.s.c. would be. now it is the same no matter the weight difference.

 

This F.S.C.thing looks to me like it's getting out of hand. When I was leased to a company the FSC was always listed separately from the mileage pay or the % pay. In other words .90 a mile loaded on 1000 miles = 900.00 + .26 a mile FSC =260.00=1160.00. Percentage worked the same way. Percentage = so much + fsc= total pay. It's really not that complicated and the law is pretty simple to. Whoever pays the fuel gets 100% of the FSC. It doesn't effect company drivers, but lease purchase or O/O's are due the FSC. Period. Used to be every Tue at 10 AM Eastern Time the Energy Dept released the FSC for that week based on the National Fuel Average. Companies then applied that to loads hauled for that week. Next week it started all over again depending on the National Average Fuel Price. It can be a PIA especially dealing with brokers and I always asked for the base rate + the FSC and the brokers I dealt with would tell me. Sometimes the FAX only showed a total dollar figure but the settlement showed base rate + FSC. My wife used to get frustrated with it because of the dollar amount difference between the FAX and the settlement but we worked it out.
