I do not work for Sysco,....
I do know some that do,...
It would depend on whether or not the location you are looking at is Union or not,.....
The area I live in is on the boarder for two different Sysco Foods distributors,....Sysco Minnesota is Teamsters and they have a better pay scale and much less driver turnover,..
Baraboo Sysco in Wisconsin is non-union and those drivers make less money and a much higher driver turnover,.....
Food service can be grueling labor intensive work,..Why leave a ltl freight company for that??already gone, LongRoadTrucker and snowbird_89 Thank this. -
I work for non union Sysco work is really hard pay is really good gross 1300 to 1400 in a 5 day week. They are getting crazy with safety we have cameras in the trucks and we have to put out cones when we back up. They put barcodes all over the truck and trailer that you have to scan for your pre and post trip. I would stay where you are honestly. Union houses might be better they are hourly and I hear they get helpers but Im not sure on that, just do some good homework before you make the jump.

Becasue it would be a shuttle run at night and would be a good fit with my schedule at Sysco, and yes they are union, but since ND is a right to work state we do not have to join the union..
-
Yeah, about that RTW thing... true, you do not have to join, but, you may want to find out what % of drivers are non-union dues paying before you go in with that way of thinking... and, there may be a hint of peer pressure to pay the dues.... just my 2c worth as a Shop Steward/organizer.
btw, the routes are probably still up for bid, so the shuttle run you are looking at may not be yours for the duration of your employment... -
Im pretty sure I would be a shuttle driver for 2 years or more, being that where I would be working drivers make less money being a shuttle driver..
As far as the Union deal, whatever Is all I can say..I can care less if im Union or Non-Union, makes no difference to me, except for $50 that was taken from my pay check every month when I was a Union Member for 12 years... -
You shouldnt have any worries of losing the shuttle route. Usually the older drivers take the shuttle spots when they dont want to run routes anymore. They do pay less which you already know. Its actually a pretty sweet gig if the pay and the hours suit you.

Agree Young Truckin, I havn't made any decisions yet..I like FedEx but need a more favorable schedule at night, or early morning..
-
I think its different depending on whether your out of the yard or out of the warehouse. Our yard shuttle leaves out around 8 and is done by 4. The guys out of the warehouse are usually done by 6 to 7 am. Im out of Savannah GA and our warehouse is Jacksonville so its about a 2 and a half hour pull. Our tractors only run 60 and Im pretty sure thats company wide.

ALL sysco's now have or will have camera(s) in their trucks.. Cant drink, eat, smoke, chew, talk on phone.... you will get wrote up and most sysco houses will fire you have 3 times. its getting bad. might as well have a robot drive the truck.
herring22 Thanks this.
