And so everyone out there came thru the door knowing how to shift? Alright for those that didn't, what companies did you start out with to get that training?

Does you license have a restriction for automatic only? In VT, if you test on an automatic, your CDL will be restricted to driving automatics only.

You're at a serious disadvantage with not knowing how to shift. Most if not all trucking companies are getting rid of the automatics. To many problems with them as automatics can't handle the weight combined with terrain of heavy haul.

I would really suggest you try find someone to show you. Its not that hard at all.

    real drivers drive stick.

I'm not a real driver yet, but when I raced F1 online, you do much better when shifting manually.

Sorry, that's all I got. Heheheheheee

No don't fake it. This is a common problem today that most training companies are prepared to deal with. Either way, you have to go on the road with a trainer. Even if you went to school with a stick, you only have 3 weeks experience. That ain't nothing. I would seek out a company that is willing to teach you on a stick, because you will need to know eventially. It's alot easier with somebody in the next seat telling you how.

Yes, they are companies that hire new drivers. There's nothing wrong with that and I don't like to call them that because everyone has to start somewhere. However, the thing that usually earns them that title is the training or lack there of that their new drivers receive from them. No-one starts at the top, everyone was a "bottom feeder" at one time. I find using that term for new drivers and companies that hire them to work against improving the industry. We should all do what we can to help new drivers out so they can get a better job with a better company so our industry can advance and more importantly safety out on the highway can advance.

What kind of school did you go to that they only taught you on automatics? I would be high suspicious of such a school in the first place and would question whether they are a CDL mill or not.
