its me giggles..lol , i have..my mom used to take me out to eat every fri..(mom and dad were divorced.. and that was my lil treat i guess) ( i was under 10 yrs old) and she would ask me where do you wanna go this time?? I ALWAYS wanted to go to the truck stop, sit at the counter, look and listen to the drivers, and play "take this job and shove it" (johnny paycheck) cuz that seemed like a trucker song to me...LOL and then after, wanted to go walk by all the trucks...of course in those days they were all cabovers...so as soon as i was old enough to get my cdl i did...and the rest is history lol...started driving jan 1991...thanks for the trip down memory lane...

yeah i would do that but right now im stuck at crappy job, and social security income keep declining me cuz im not disablity which i actually am. so yeah that main reason. but i might end up being secessful busness as mechanic then dont need back up cdl. never know.... or maybe i end up love this job and work on cars as hobby. thats another option lol but thanks for pointing it out

I've always wanted to be a trucker since childhood, which was about 12 months ago.

By the age of five I knew I wanted to drive truck.

I was about 6 years old. My dad was setting at a stoplight when my uncle pulled up alongside of us driving a B model Mack that belonged to Chemical Lehman Tank Lines. He tooted that airhorn, and ol' Knucklebuster was hooked.
chalupa Thanks this. -
depends what he's fixing, I was a mechanic before I started driving and I made good money when I lived in VT but because the cost of living is so high up there I couldnt afford to live up there, so when I moved south I was hopeing to find a similar paying job well when I got down to NC i found out that mechanics make less then half of what I was makeing up north so again not makeing enough to pay the bills....
Now if Your a Certified Diesel Tech thats a Differant story. and Had I stayed in Avaition which what I went to school and graduated for I would have made ALLOT more money. So for those of you that want to be mechanics THINK DIESEL or AIRCRAFT cars are fun and all but they pay sucks...

yes and depends how you spend hours, money, place to live like apt, house, etc. or own your own business, how many cars needed to get fix. like i said im trying to do what i love to do. but again due to economy sucks.

all i did when i was a kid was draw pictures of petes. you cant not just love the lines and i would have doubles and triples and 10 or however many trailers i could fit on a page sometimes, or flatbeds with bulldozers and stuff on them. other than that i drew lots of pirate ships, i guess if pirates these days werent just a bunch of crazy african guys i might have had a tougher choice on which way to go.

I knew when i was about 14 i wanted to drive truck, where my dad worked there were semi trucks in and out of that place all day long and i knew all the drivers by first name for the longest time but now most have either retired or now sadly passed on to the great highway in the sky. Ive driven over the road for a few years and a lot of local which i like for being home every night and dont miss long waits at shippers & receivers or the time spent in the truck stops or the food but i do miss driving more than just local cause you see more country than just seeing the same ole scenery being local but its all in what you want to do and when you want to do it but i would rather drive a truck of some kind than sit behind a desk in an office anyday.
heyns57 Thanks this.
