Driving on Ice and snow

I'm not trucker enough to drive around on ice. Snow is ok...I don't fool around on ice. My happy but will just sit until the roads clear up. Seen way to many trucks in ditches...

 

i live here on the eastside of indianapolis, not far from Celadon on 33rd and post road at all.......the weather here is bad......everything is COVERED in ice.....they canceled work today (UPS Freight driver), and probably will tomorrow also

 

I try very,very hard to not drive on ice..,unless of course fishing is involved,and EVERYTHING that entails. Footnote-I have been in Effingham,Ill since late last night..,that is what I think of ice..

 

I'm in northern Indiana we are under a blizzard warning until 7 P.M. Wed. up to 20" possible, with 4' to 8' drifts possible. The National Guard has already been called out in advance of the storm. It's a big deal!

 

All of you out there in this stuff, stay safe. Maybe there won't be widespread power outages..with any luck. Today on I-77 in SC I saw three different convoys of power company utility trucks going north...I assume headed for Ohio and points mid west.

 

If your from the US then ice and snow becomes a big problem, but if your a Canadian driver from the prairies then your good to go. It's -45 where I'm sitting right now. This goes on for 7 months of the year. And yes I'm sick of it.

 

i had a friend from indiana call me at 3am the other night, why so late i dont know, but just to ask if i was coming through and to stay away.

i saw some of those power trucks yesterday as well, coming north on 77 through va and nc. about 2 of those convoys, one had to be 20 trucks.

 

If for some reason you absolutely have to drive on ice and snow then be sure you know how to chain up properly! To tight and you will damage your wheels. To loose and your chains may damage your equipment or even fail completely and break off. there should be just a little play in chain above the tread for best traction. My best advice is to find a nice truckstop and wait it out. But I also know that some loads such as medical supplies, road salt, even military loads sometimes have be delivered as soon as possible. I agree with Beer Runner. -45 is better for driving than the warmer temps we have down here. Ice at that temp. has some traction, at least until the traffic wears a nice shiny sheen on it lol.
