Would a permit from another state be any good?

When I got my permit it was only legal within the state of Maine.

Sazook is probably a better judge of that - you might want to PM him, but many folks get their CDL permit in their home state before going to orientation. It's a good idea - relieves a lot of the first couple of days pressure.

    sazook Thanks this.

I have to ask.....Do they have simulated Police? Would you get a simulated ticket for simulated driving without a permit? Would you simulate going to a simulated court? Could you pay the simulated fine with monopoly money?:biggrin_25520:

In the past they would have you get one from the state of Missouri. They even had a guy from the state to test you at the training pad. They might have changed since then.

I don't see why your permit would only have been good within Maine unless you got it before you're 21st birthday, in which case you were not allowed to drive in interstate commerce. Most of my students have had permits from outside states including Virginia, Kansas, Indiana, and Georgia. As long as the state of Missouri would accept the permit when getting your CDL, you're allowed to train at Prime on that permit.

Ahh.... the "only good in the state of Maine" part may have been for the under 21s we had in the class... I may have mis-interpreted what was being said at the time... that would make some sense.

On another note... got my permanant licence... and yesterday my 2010 1099s showed up in the mail... so now I need to scan those & send 'em to my recuiter... I may be headed to Pittston in a couple weeks.

Figured since I had to pay for it anyways, I may as well just take it at Prime and save some money in addition to saving a headache by avoiding dealing with the worst CDL state in the country IL. Passed all of the permit test today and completed 6 or 7 simulators so hopefully things continue smoothly.

And from what I'm hearing here, yes your permit is good from another state. My recruiter even told me that if possible I should get mine before coming to training to give me a head start. A few ppl in my class from other states already had theirs and pretty much just did simulators all day while everyone else took the test. Every other company I looked into actually requires IL residents to have their permits before coming to their training, so I'm sure you'll be fine.

yes permit is good from another state as long as it is a hard copy not paper.

Missouri does accept some paper ones now as well. Don't remember the exact states, but I did have one student with a paper permit that was good.

You need a "hard copy" of your license. Some states issue a new license that indicates you have a "permit" to drive commercial vehicles. Other states let you keep your regular driver's license and give you a paper permit. As long as the paper permit states you are legal to drive a commercial vehicle interstate while accompanied by a valid CDL holder you are good to go. "Hard Copies" are not required as has been misrepresented numerous times.
