    Hi all,

I'm a newbie from Ohio. Just completed Great Lakes Truck Driving school and am trying to decide which company to go with starting off. I have been watching the forum for the last few weeks while doing research and decided to join.

keep us posted on your research, I am especially interested as I am getting my CDL soon (classes begin 2-21) I supposedly have a job with the company I am layed off from, but nothing is certain in this life so I am doing a little research myself. In my case I would not want to be a 3000 mile plus mileage each week as I am already retired once and have nothing to prove. Not sure what direction I will direct myself if the original job does not work out. Any input/suggestions would be welcome.

I got my CDL today! I had to test a second time because I messed up the pre-trip last week. My fault, was over-confident and did not follow a set pattern.

borderlineagain - There were a few guys at or near retirement in my class. One was layed off from the Steel mill and doing this until he gets called back. Another I think has a job through a friend driving a milk truck after getting his CDL. I think there are non- otr jobs out there if you have time to look. The school posts jobs and I saw listings there for straight truck jobs such as Lowes that might allow you to work part time. Local tractor trailer jobs for the most part want 1 to 2 years experience. One word of caution, if you get a class A CDL and do not use it right away (within 60 days) most tractor trailer companies will require a refresher course which is about $1500. I really like the school I went to, the instructors are good. They don't go easy on you but they teach you what you need to know.
