But the damage a Semi Truck can do to a row of cars can be nearly equal to the damage a missile may have done to the same cars.........

so you are saying a big rig has no possible damage to life, limb, property as a missile does..that a fully loaded rig with hazmat or a tanker has no potential at all to cause some serious catastrophic damage...??? you obviously have not seen some of the carnage that i have seen, again, search the website for truck accidents, not just here in the states, but in all of the world.

its an expression i have used in school for the past 3 years now, and i will continue to use it...

Back in drivers ed in HS our instructor said the same thing about a regular car.

And go figure, same week, just after a kid in the class was calling BS. a 1999 Honda Accord blasted through a home that was off the highway. Went straight through the house, killing the driver, and destroying over $75K worth in property. Driver died, but it literally was a missile in a near-true sense.

I know of a guy who threw a burrito,(yes a burrito like from Taco Bell) at a passing car. He was arrested and the charge was 'assault with a missile upon a moving vehicle'. 6 months in county jail. Legally anything flying in through the air is technically a missile.

I'm with the OP, it aint rocket science, it's just driving a truck. (still an important job by the way)

    No doubt at all...

But I want you to tell me a truck isn't a missile...

That said, stupidest mis conception I've ever heard of someone, is saying truck drivers usually don't have an education.

I've heard and seen alot of mis-quotes and the one that pops up in the newspaper all the time with us is the amount of gallons of gasoline the tanker hauls. The papers say the tanker flipped over and spilled 80,000 gallons. Obviously getting the weight mixed up with the gallons.

Another common error is saying a gasoline tanker is a bomb. That quote is just plain ignorance of the load. It takes air and heat to make that tanker BURN and very few have exploded. People also think that the station tanks underground are going to explode too if there's a fire. Granted they will burn like no tomorrow but it's only when you induce air and heat with the product. Flip the lid over and the fire is gone. If a tanker flips over and rips open plus have all the condtions right you're going to have a fireball that's going to be big. But explode, you'll need to confine it. And please no quotes from the TV show Myth Busters because they are idiots when it comes to gasoline. They think throwing a lit cigarette into a bucket will just go out. And it will 9 times out of 10. But that one time where the fuel, air, and heat mixture are just right you'll have a nice fire. And when I'm unloading I don't need anyone smoking thinking they're in no danger because they just saw two idiots on TV. I always tell those people "who do you think is going to pay for all this burnt pile of medal"?
