misinformation you will hear....

Well technically it isn't, in order for it to be considered a missile it has to fly doesn't it? I mean literally off the ground fly... -
You can't get over 4 MPG with a W900, 379, 389 or a Junkliner Classic.
A truck is an 80,000 pound missile....(Maybe when you drive it!)
You can't downshift on a grade....(Unless you know how to drive!)
If the weather's bad enough for chains it's too bad to drive in!
Floating gears is hard on the transmission.
Slowing down "always" saves fuel.
Those are just a few that come to mind right now but there are thousands more...Most of this BS is the propaganda that's spoon fed to the newbies by truck driving schools and the big bottom feeders both of which are slowly destroying the trucking business!Truck Driver, Hanadarko and Gearjammin' Penguin Thank this. -
and no student wants to pay either another $50 or $90 for yet another road test, he SHOULD have passed the first time...
did anyone know that if you are in a wreck, and you were NOT IN GEAR, you could be cited for "not being in control of the vehicle"...????
if i am able to find more info on this, i will post it......but this was told to me by MY instructors when I WAS in school many years ago.......and as a result, I TELL MY students this........
do not forget, at many truck wrecks, a DOT cop WILL BE THERE....he WILL check out the position of the shift lever....
heck in my area, there was a "stake bodied" truck, no CDL required.....it was no more than a converted 1 ton pick-up truck....but it had a commercial license plate, and it was registered to a business, in fact, installing hot tubs.....the guy lost control (a tie rod end broke) and he crashed into a building......
sure as shiot, the local city cops called the state police "truck division" (DOT) and a trooper was there (in les than 30 minutes) to inspect the truck before it could be towed away.....
all the while i was watching, the trooper did not cite the guy.......Last edited: Feb 4, 2011

So....If I was involved in an accident, I need to shut the truck off and leave it in the gear it was in when I crashed?
What if I move the truck off the highway and out of the way of traffic after the collision??
What if during the collision the shifter bounced or was knocked out of gear?
What if I was in the middle of a shift at the point of impact?
Whether a truck was in gear or not at the time of a collision is virtually unproveable.
There's the problem right there....You were told a BS story and as a result, You pass the same BS story on to your "students!"
IF and that's a big IF, A dot cop "checks the position of the shift lever" the only thing it proves is that after the accident the transmission was in neutral.
This proves what?
No wonder so many of these "school taught" drivers don't know what the hell their doing!grimesjm1, Gearjammin' Penguin, Les2 and 6 others Thank this.
