I would definately stay away from Knight. Check out this forums "bad companies" and see the tons and tons of terrible comments on Knight. As stated above, try to stay a MINIMUM of 6 months and you should really stay a year to then move to wherever YOU want to go then.

This may sound trivial but check out how each company pays you. A company paying you "short" miles vs. real miles can mean as much as a $4,600 a year difference. 10% -15% cheated miles.... ie. Driving an average of 10,000 miles per month means 120,000 miles per year. 10% cheated or "short" miles means you drove 12,000 miles for FREE or at $.36 per mile pay over $4,600 loss and over $5,100 at 12%.

Detainment paid beginning after the 2nd hour and paid in 1/4 hour increments can make a difference. Anotherwords, if your company will have a lot of detainment and you sit at a place for $10 an hours vs. $25 an hour it could make a difference. You want detainment whether the company gets reimbursed or not. If you have to wait another whole hour to get an hour, you sit for 3 hours to get one hr detainment. If paid in 1/4 hours you would get paid after 2 hrs and 15 min. vs. having to wait for another whole hour to go by before they'll pay you anything.

How far will the co. deadhead you to get home. I worked for a company in WI that deadheaded me from Denver, CO to Janesville, WI so I could spend Thanksgiving with my Son. I know many of the big companies that will shut you down 100 miles from your home and not let you deadhead home.

Try to talk to other drivers... and ask questions, ask questions, ask questions before you make that first job.
