I have been working for Hartt for 8 months. Just like any trucking company they have their ups and downs, but honestly I don't really have any complaints. After about three months of regonal I switched to OTR simply because I got tired of NYC and Jersey. As OTR I get great miles, about 85% drop and hook, and rarely if ever deliver in the north east unless I am going to Maine for a few days off (where my family lives) or going to get service work done on my truck, as I only let Mike's crew in the Auburn shop touch my truck they are the best. All and all the experience has been good, the people are great, very helpful, but busy so if you have an issue you need resolved sometimes you need to be paitent. The equipment is alright some of the older trucks are in rough shape asteticaly but they are all kept in good running condition.
Maine was a CSA test state and Hartt worked very closely with the Maine State Police during the transition, they also provide their Bangor facility to the Maine State Police for Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement training. We may not have one of the best safety records in the industry but we certainly do not have the worst, and they are working everyday to improve this. I have never had a problem during a DOT inspection as I take pride in my equipment do a good PTI everytime and take a few extra steps like keeping the truck clean on the outside and in and just making sure everything is generaly tidy, including my logs, permit book, and paperwork.
Trucking has always been an industry of freedom and Hartt, although they are a rather large company compared to Maine standards, they still let you maintain a lot of that freedom and responsibilty that a true truck driver craves. They give you everything you need but in trucking the driver has to use these tools to the best of their ability, basicaly saying you will get out of it what you put into it.
The new ProStars and Cascadias, the condos anyway, are O/O spec trucks with APU's, fridges, all the gauges, and two air rides, and they are slowly phasing the older trucks out and replacing them with these. Very nice trucks!! They have also added a lot of brand new trailers with all the bells and wistles too, but there are still a lot of older ones out there you just have to make sure you do a good job inspecting them and do your part in making sure the work get done to them if work is needed.
I Just recently had a DM change so it has been a bit of a learning curve for both of us but it seems to be working out just fine. As for all of the initial posts in this thread, I cant tell you any of it is true or untrue, I can only tell you of my experience. If you need a job and are willing to work Hartt is a great company. Trucking is trucking people this is not an exact science, your going to have weeks when you wonder what you are doing with your life and others that make it all worth while.
I'm new to this site just created an account today not 100% sure how it all works yet, but if anyone wants information on Hartt and how to get a job here please feel free to send me a message, I would be more than happy to give you my phone # so I can share my experience with you and maybe help you make an informed decision.

I AM NOT A RECRUTER WE ONLY HAVE ONE AND HE WORKS OUT THE THE AUBURN TERMINAL!!!

I don't really care about the referal money, I know how hard it is to find a job and in this economy maybe its time us truckers start going back to our roots and help one another out like we used to years ago instead of trying to cut eachothers throat.

How about some current details on the pay structure?

    Such as;
Pay per mile and how it's calculated (which routing program is used)?
Accesorial pay (unloading, drops/hooks, multi-stops, detention, layover)?
Vacation pay (how much per week and how many weeks per year)?
Holiday pay, if yes how many paid days and how much per day?
Paid sick days off, if yes how many and how much per day?
Paid personal days off, if yes how many and how much per day?
Details on the current medical, dental, vision insurance programs would be helpful as well.
    401k or profit sharing?

A "good company" will offer all of the above. So how well does Hartt really stack up?

Welcome to the site Jake and great post there's a lot of useful information in there. I've always wondered about hartt I have a few questions I hope you can answer.

When you say you do OTR is that all 48? Also you say you don't go into the northeast much expect to go home so what areas/lanes do you mainly run?

Does hartt have owner operators and if they do have you talked to any of them do they seem pleased?

Thanks Jake and be safe out there

I agree with everyone about Hartt. It is a great company. As I stated in my lst post, my time with them was short. I did leave out of Auburn for tuetopolis, Il. From there to Owensboro, Ky to Carlisle,Pa and walmart DC in raymond, N.H.

Left Carlisle with about 3" of snow on I-81. Boy that was a learning experience. Drove out of the storm outside Danbury, Ct. From there it was clear sailing back to Maine.

It was on this trip that I realized that OTR trucking was not my cup of tea and ended this career choice. Today I have no regrets about my decision. For those who can do it, I give them all my blessings and wish them safe trucking whereever they happen to be going.

Again, thanks to all who were there at the Auburn terminal the day I left and offered there words of wisdom and shared their experiences and help.

    The best to all.

In the few months that I worked for Hartt I was considered NE regional. I was asked by my dispatcher if I was willing to go to NC or SC quite often. I said milesaway from NYC, sure. As far I know, they only serve east of the misissipi river.

They do have freight that runs all 48 the also.have a brokerage however and tend to pass the freight that they are not able to keep their own trucks running with off to o/o or out of company. As for east of old miss not true we have customers in TX, AZ, etc etc however there aren't many mid west and deep south is a fairly good rule of thumb unless you are an o/o willing to do broker loads. As for the north east expect, if you are otr to drop in one of the north east drop yards MA ME PA in and out they ask otr to stay out two weeks at a time. I having no fam will stay out five to six this is why very little north east for me. But you can request no NYC or NJ and they will honor it. They also have a few weekly dedicated runs to oh wi mm pa all out of maine but not exactly sure how they hire those positions. I have been doing a weekly sidney oh for a few weeks I think just because I am always in the right place at the right time nice easy light drop and hook load. Its a little tight in sidney to drop the trailer sometimes but all and all a gravy run. Like I said feel free to contact me you can find me on the face book lol use the same username. Have a great day...

I'm an o/o and recently I was at the Sumter Yard picking up some paper. All I can say about them is VERY NICE people to deal with. Everyone I came across while getting loaded was very nice. Got a quick peek at their shop too - just as nice of people their too.

I have been with Hartt for 5-6 months now, and they have been a pretty good company to work for. Ive worked for a lot of different companies in my 32 years of driving, so I know what Im talking about. For the last 10, I have been doing lots of job hopping, but hope to stay here a while. The trucks leave a little to be desired, but the maintenance is kept up as long as you write it up. Speed is set at 67-68 mph unless you are running Canada. Those trucks are set at 65. Some have apu's, some just have webastos, but I think all of the OTR trucks have power invertors, and they are big enough to run a microwave. And most trucks have a refrigerator. The Maine terminals arent the most friendly of places....there are no open doors there. At the shops, you have to go up to a service window and either stand there and be ignored or start knocking on the window which is always good for a glare. And I think this is the first company I have worked for that does not clean the trucks out between drivers. When you climb in one, it has all of the filth that the previous driver left behind. I mean, come on! The guys in the shop are paid by the hour, but they expect the drivers to donate their time cleaning up the mess! That burns my #####. Time to get off that subject, before I lose my focus. :)
