I vote to hit the Tehachapi Pass, 58 out of bakersfield to 395. Nice, wide open drive. From there, the 215 to the 15, and its your call from there.

You'll probably be on I-5 all the way down, but if you end up on CA-99 anywhere from Sacramento to Modesto, give me a holler!! Thats my daily commute
-
It depends on what time of day you're getting there. Best hours to arrive are before 4 am. I'd do 5, 210 if you are arriving after 4 am. Listen to radio station KNX am 1070 for traffic reports every 6 minutes. The 15 from Victorville south to the 10 is a nightmare after 5 am. PS, the So.Cal. traffic don't bother me since I grew up here and drove tow trucks, taxis, and big trucks.

I'd go 210 to the 5. Just be careful when you get near Pasadena. The sprinklers are jacked right before the tunnel into Pasadena. It freaks me out every time I roll through there and the road is all wet headed into the tunnel which is also a left bend.
I like the 58 also but time is money and I get hit for Out Of Route.
The 138 is nonsense. It's a crazy road that has killed many drivers including my Riding Wing Man. I haven't been through there since. People try to pass on that thing and it's a pile up. Too nutty for me.
If you are headed to Rancho Cucamonga you need to stop by the open mall. Victoria Gardens. On the Main Street is a Brighton store. Find just about anything on sale and take it home to the wife/girlfriend/sex buddy. Once you convince her it's not a guilt gift she'll love it.
Then go eat at The Hat. Be ready for some good grub. -
Much better here, this is the one I use always.Just a tad bit further, but much better traffic conditions, and us58 is a much better road than 5.

AllowMe is right. Alot of it depends on the time and the day on how bad traffic is. Sundays from noon on are bad going from Victorville South. This is due to people coming from Vegas,Laughlin, and the Colo River. Capt Gruuvy its been my experince that sometimes going the slightly longer way is quicker by an hour or more.

I thought you already knew everything about California.

I know a little about it....

Take the 210 directly from the 5 to get to cucamonga. I run there all the time. Best time to go through is before 6 am or you wont have any problems from 10 am- 2pm. Now, if you ever pick up a load in the ontario area and the load is going north and its rush hour, take I-15 north up to hisperia, then take 395 north, then the 58 down to bakersfield. Then take 99 north, or you can get over to I-5. but yes, there is no traffic in LA from 10 pm- 4am.
( unless some guy pulling a container jackknifes it)

True.
I connect to the "Reefer of the Day" at about 19:30. My drive time in Greater LA area is after 21:00 and I run to two or three stores a night. I'm back at the Trailer Wash Out by 7am. Traffic is a rare problem wiff these hours.
