I have 6 years of flatbed experience from the military hauling everything from tanks to munitiions...Can I be succesful with trading in my career, buying a truck, and becoming my own boss with this experience? I will ofcourse go to a reputable school to get my creds up to date. Can you reccommend a reputable school that will give me fltbed trining? I don't see myself as starting as a company driver...I would only do it if I could start out as an owner operator...will take any advice offered.

i would call flatbed companies that hire O/O's and ask them about your experience being acceptable or not if you go to a school i wouldn't see why it wouldn't be if you went to a truck school or refresher course.

Most companies are not going to reconize military experiance. And your not going to want to go O/O right from the start....Theres a BIG differance between driveing on some desert roads with no rules vs. OTR in the US, 1000000 more rules and regulations plus all the BS that comes with OTR.
It takes allot of money to sucessfully start out as a O/O....do you wanna risk everything you have?
Truck driving schools also do not train you to do anything but drive...no flatbed training...
Your best bet would be to go to a school and then Try to get on with maverick or if you can't get on with them try TMC. Then after you get a year under your belt and you still wanna buy a truck then go for it....
