i agree man i went to school and out of alll the people who came and went while i was there i was the only one who had paid for it myself. and i was out of work close to year before i finally bit the bullet and went. it was a joke, i mean people who couldnt speak ANY english, or use a clutch...or both...it was a little shocking.
but it all works out in the end, with tuition reimbursement anyway. but if i could have gotten help i would have, the way i saw it at the time it was a big gamble. luckily it worked out and im happy doing this.
another going to W/S

It kills me to think that people depend on someone else (taxpayers) to foot the bill for something they should be responsible for... I can see if you are handicapped/disabled or a veteran then I'm all for helping. I guess I'm not politically correct or with the times.
Like I said before everyone's situation is different and don't hold it against someone who really needs help but if you're sitting on the couch eating cheese doodles and expect someone to provide you help then I have little sympathy. -
I was eating pretzels!...Actually, this was the first time in my life I needed help...I had a home business making $20k/mth, when the mortgage meltdown occurred, so went my bank account and business...I was hurting...

I think over the last couple years people have come back to reality and their parents and grandparents words are ringing in their heads. Save your money... don't spend it foolishly.... have a back up plan... on and on.
I for one woke the hell up.

I have avoided posting anything here, bucause it seems that almost everything i put sounds like i'm lashing out and I realy am not. but here I go.
I applied to WIA hoping that I would get through school before my active duty time was done, so I would still be getting a real paycheck. I can say at this point I don't recomend the program unless it's a last resort.
I applied for voc rehab from the VA because I will be a disabled vet whenever they get done draggin their feet.
So here I am now with no job and a measaly retirement check i'll be getting starting March 1st. I sat down with mamma and convenced her to take some money from thrift savings (401 for government and military) and I am starting Monday at Cross Country TDS. I will post a log of that adventure here http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...country-truck-driving-school-thomasville.html
Right now I am penciled in for orientation in Conover on March 14th.123456 and American-Trucker Thank this. -
mDub, You could've used TA while you were in to pay for the school. I'm currently AD in the Air Force and was able to get TA to pay for school. The school cost $3300 and TA covered it all. As far as Voc Rehab, they are pretty quick. I don't retire until May, but I applied for Voc Rehab back in December and they were very quick for me. If you need any help, just let me know.

TA works difrent for each branch, I could not get approved.
I applied for voc rehab in Dec, on Jan 21 went to orientation. counsolor said i didn't qualify YET. said to come back after i get my rating (which they have had siting on their desk since november and still haven't made a decision) so insted of siting around the house being board we are investing in me.
as of right now i plan on staying with W/S longet than it will take for them to pay back the tuition for school. -
Good luck, mDub and thank you for your service. I was in for 9 years myself. Have you looked at community colleges that offer driver training? I went to Davidson County Community College which is about half the price of Cross Country.
Edit: Nevermind, I missed your other thread that explains. -
DITTO Thank all of you who have served or are still serving, my dad served 31 years 3 wars and then retired and was receiving a very good retirement check for 32 years till the nursing/rehab home he was in decided to insert a feeding tube into his lung, but do we have any proof of this? Of course not, but waht a good guy he was, taught me so much about everything he knew. Thanks Dad!

Just wanted to thank each and every one of you who post on here, made my decision to try and become a "W/S family member" and no brainer. Now if I can just get thru orientation! Again, thx for all of you....be safe, and God bless each of you and your families!
