Rob also thought it was necessary to tell the class about this, it ,does not mean it will happen to you. Be careful, I just wanted people to know what happened to me. Rob is inteligent and knows the industry, I did not call him to tell him about May he called me. I know for a fact that May has a shortage of trainers, and I don't want someone else to experience what I went through. Getting fired is quite the slap in the face when you have done nothing wrong. If you could I would hold out for something like Crete, I can't beleive the difference! Good luck with whoever, I don't want anyone to fail right out of school it makes it hard to pick up the pieces.

well unfortantly I had a accident back in dec 06 so that severly limits my options into who I can work for.
I was not charged with the accident but it is on paper that I had one.
Plus may also says will not unload truck much. I asked if I unload or someone else does she told me we most of the time will not unload but on a few occasions we have too. We can use lumpers if avalible for the going rate or I can unload and make extra cash.
The other companies that want me watkins shepherd wants me to be there for 10 days for free driving sorry I dont drive for free and then unload all of the freight most of the time.
Davis Transport wants me to be with them but not sure I want to tarp with heavy tarps.
Arrow same thing as Davis.
CRE well you know the story on them meat grinder.
I have a company called Stone Mountain people may of heard of them but have no good or bad info on them I will not take chances, the number they called from was a personal home number out of the co springs I think is the town. I forgret who else but may had the best to offer to me.
I was going to go to Werner the other meat grinder but they told me sorry with the accident until 12 months has past can not touch me.
Swift told Rob that I did not make enough money at current job so he did not know how I was able to live on that small money so could not hire me.
So as you can see I am verry limited on what I can do or want to go with.
Popeye I will take my chances with May but thanks for the warning and like I said I have good driving skills so when they decide to test me I should not have anything to worry about. -
I started with May about 4 months ago. I was told that my pay would be around $800.00-$1,100.00 A WEEK. The drive test was no big deal and the guy that did his test at the same time as I did was grinding the gears, missed a turn and was having a hard time doing the speed limit (And he passed) I started driving truck about 18 months ago with the pumkin trucks. I went to the 3 week course, got my CDL, did 2 days of training and was put on the road. I stayed with them for 2 months and quite for a local job. I know that may is alot better then schenider by my opinion. Although with my I have never seen these 800-1100 checks. mine have been avg. around 300-500 a week. I have been sitting ALOT. I get to most every load about 18 hours early, and then have to sit for half a day or longer to get a load. they have there time cut off for when they have to pay for the down time and I think they work it so you are just under the time so they dont have to pay. I just came back on the road monday and will be out for 5 weeks. I put in my (You better get me my miles and pay or im turning in the truck on my way home) notice. The first 2 loads were great and now im sitting again. I avg. 500 miles a day down to CA from WA and then 200 or less. I keep hearing of people that are getting the miles and one guy I talked to said that he was getting too many and was trying to give some away. Not sure what is going on with this company but was asked at Frightliner today If the company was still in business. I guess he heard that It was going under. Well thats enough or too much from me! good luck to those looking into MAY.

What are you on the regional or the 48 state? I heard that makes a big difference. Is the amount of your checks 300.00 - 500.00 after taxes? How much advances are you taking if any?
-
I signed up fo the 11 western and thats what I was quoted for. My last check after taxes and child support was 174.00 (child support is 86) they have 3 more weeks to "SHOW ME THE MONEY" or im droping the truck off. just cant afford to live off this.
-
I hear ya. We weren't with May but I can identify with you when my husband was with P.A.M. and JB Hunt.
-
You should check into getting into the 48 state and see if your miles and checks get better. You do not want to quit a job unless there is no other choice.
You also forgot to say if you were taking advances that comes out of your checks too.
I was offered both the 11 state regional and the 48 and I am going with the 48 state. -
I did take one advance for $300 to make my check out to $450 one week and they took it off my next check making that one around $250. things dont look to be getting any better right now. Im sitting in one of are yards with about 6 other guys and thye seem to be going throught the smae thing. I did look into go 48 but have been told by my DM that it is just as slow. Some of the guys that I have been talking with are on the 48 side and they are doing better but still very slow right now.

I still plan on starting out with them.
I will let them know early on that I do not like sitting alot my job is to drive. Of course they pay you for sitting don't they since it is their fault that there are no loads? -
I just got home from my 2nd time out with May Trucking. Did a little better then the first time I posted but not anything dramatic. I forgot to mention in my last post that I ran 11 western Dry van. I did 13 loads from May 21 to June 7th for a total of 6797 miles with 3 stop offs at .37 per mile for a total of $2719.08 which includes their idle bonus and 3 local del I did the day after the last holiday.
The other poster mentioned the low miles he was getting and I would suggest changing dispatchers and or hauling some refer loads to boost the miles. I was running low one week and ran one from UT to WA and another from OR to AZ. I have not had any layover since starting with them 7 weeks ago and was DH 321 miles to pu a load a couple weeks ago when frt was not avail in the rural area I was in. I also put my hours in like clock work and keep my dispatcher informed when I will be ready to roll. Most of the time I have 2 loads schedualed at a time and once had 3 but one cancelled. I have only had one load that I had any concern that I might not del on time and many I have dropped early. I can also now pay for scales with my comdata card which is also a plus since I haul about 50% loads that should be scaled. I have not touched a single piece of frt except for the 1 case of paper towels I handed out to drivers that was refused by a rec due to loading damage. I hear that the refer division which is 48 gets more miles and if you are starting out you should run 48 anyway in my book. Many drivers at May run set tours. one I know of just runs between LA and the Bay Area Another runs from Denver to SLC others just run I-10 or 15. I run Mainly I-5 to The Bay Area And I-84 to UT and roads in between.
My trainee friend seems to be doing fine and gets by his house often since he lives in middle of his main running lane. He would like more miles but I told him If he runs only Bay to Bay The traffic and speed limit wont allow it, so he has started running loads to Phoenix also.
The down side of May I would have to say is their trailers which they need to cycle thru the shop better and wash more often or buy more of. They are also not as concerned as USX & IDC was about keeping the trucks clean unless you bug them about it. They have wash bays but they always seem to be used for turn ins or closed when I'm around them and getting a P.O. number for a truck wash takes some diplomacy or at worst a out right demand. They are pretty picky on logs and do audit them regularly. They also give me 2 many fuel stops when I usualy fuel at the terminals anyway. My dispatcher has told me about a few drivers lack of attention to detail in their JOB and that may explain why some sit more then others. I think some drivers think that doing their macros and turning in correctly filled out paperwork is someone elses job and they only get paid to drive. If you think like that you will be doing alot of job hopping or watching alot of TV in your truck becuase they wont run you. It's that simple. If you give a 100% and you arent getting it back then the grass may be greener somewere else. So far I have had no problems but I will let know if I do.
