Ok guys, maybe I will go to a refresher to open doors.
$500 for a piece of paper is tough to chew and swallow, but I need MONEY and SOON.

So help me if you can by describing what the refresher might be.

Also, what is this Simulator all about???

how long have you been out of the seat?.......you OBVIOUSLY have a boat load of experience.....I would think a smaller outfit would hire you without having to pay for the "refresher" course........I don't know much about them but I have a feeling you could out drive alot of the instructors at these places

seriously check out craigslist, go to the biggest city near you, check out a few of the craigslist around you. i check them out just for kicks sometimes and there are a quite a few companies that do both OTR and regional driving, small outfits, big companies whatever. depending on where you're at you'll surely find something.

I'll check those places, and I also agree about refreshers in general being kinda silly.

But I need MONEY coming in ASAP.
And if I gotta play their silly game, then I will do it and get the certificate.

What I want to know is how they teach it.
I mean what is done and covered.

Anyone who has been through that can describe what all they did ????

I have my own ways of doing things, and don't wanna fail cause the simulator is tooky or because I float instead of double clutching.

I've never been thru one ...but one of my good friends now was also one of my instructors......he told me that most of the refresher courses are just you getting seat time.......just to "refresh" your skills...at least the school in Sun Prairie Wisconsin was like that.......

I went through the same thing after being out of the seat for about 5 years.
I found a local driver Temp agency that put me doing some local runs.
They did not even have a truck to road test me.

Craigslist has been loaded with driving jobs in this area.
Many of them are small local outfits. That would be your best bet to get hired and get some seat time.

I called one listed yesterday and have an interview in the morning.

I had to do a refresher before I came OTR, its the same thing as the school just half as long....you get a little bit of everything and then your done.

I had a guy in my initial class that took refresher........he basically just slept back in the bunk putting in "the time", when he got bored doing that, and if the weather was good, he would go out and help the students with backing, ect, I don't remember the cost, but I do think he was only there a couple of weeks.

    A couple weeks?? Ouch!
You would think a refresher course could be done in a couple days...

    rocknroll nik Thanks this.

I wouldn't know what "trucker school" does or teaches.

I was trained OTR before they became the norm.
