sure there decent money in being a o/o

but it requires being very organized and treating it as a business

knowing and understanding your costs, without jeoperdizing safety
i guarantee that by using fuel optimizing technology and software
having knowledge of favourable routes and not being a sucker in the industry
you can make a decent living

you have to be cautious of the people that work in this industry from cheating you

the people selling you the truck
    the people financing your truck
    the people repariing your truck
    the brokers and or dispatchers

be a good person, surround yourself with good people and you'll make it

I disagree that you can't make money unless you're hauling for over $2/mile. Heck, even seed potatoes out of New Brunswick to North Carolina pays $1.64 to me right now. Reloaded pork to Montreal at $1.98, then yogurt to NB for $1.88. If you do become even a lease op, especially with reefer, go percentage of revenue. Yes, there will be some cheap crap (to me cheap is anything under $1.50), but the higher paying loads make up for it.

What is the hangup on $2/mile freight? I see freight for $2.50 all the time on steady lanes n I dont even bother calling about those ones as I know its not hard to keep full and moving on a steady linehaul for $2.75+...
