I hear ya!
My training was the boss handing me a set of keys to an old cab over.
He said to take it home for the weekend.I had my permit and a week later i had my license and was trucking west bound with a furniture load.
Ah! The good old days... -
Have you been laid off this year or 2010? If you have, you need to check a county Job Works program or WIA. They will fund a refreasher course for ya. But you need to do some footwork. So get on the internet and search for a job works program in your city or WIA. Here's the link:

Since you live in Lauderdale county, you need to go to Meridian to look up a county job center there. Here's the location:
Meridian WIN Job Center
Meridian WIN Job Center
2000 Hwy 19 N
Meridian, MS 39307
Is there a local driving center there? Check it out. -
same here craigslist in my area is friggin slammed.
-
Same here...about 30 job postings a day. Weed out the recruiters and BS and there are still a few good places listed.

I contacted my local workforce office regarding a refresher course. I was basically told I was sol. They have programs to get people their cdl's but not if you already a cdl.
-
I talked to several school regarding the 60 hour "refresher" course. One was $1500 and the other was $1200. I've been holding off because I have 2 irons in the fire. The first is a O/O that may be needing a driver because he is probably going to have to retire due to health reasons.
The other is my last employer that I had to leave because of a work injury in 2002. He is working on getting me OK'd by the insurance company and has set me up with another driver to run team for a little while to get my "training wheels" on. -
A refresher is a period of time where you ride/drive with a trainer who gives you an evaluation at the end. Depending on this, you may or may not be hired. Prime uses a simulator. It is an electronic driving simulator. Looks like the inside of a cab. You react and make choices while driving. Obstacles and safety issues are all around. You get scored at the end. You may or may not be hired FYI.
