Heh,yeah I can relate.
My two sons are turning 24 & 26 this summer.
That time with your trainer will be just the start so soak up everything you can while you're out there.
The real learning curve comes when you go solo and gotta do it all yourself.
Hang in there and be safe when you get out on your own, just take it slow and easy, keep track of that trailer and you'll do fine.
Well gang it's been fun but I'm checking out...

Thanks Y2K.
Just took my first test at DMV for the CDL learners permit and passed it with no problems, only a couple wrong.
Got my physical completed and ready for week 2 to start. We cover doubles, triples and Hazmat next week.
Hope all is well with you and the new job. Take care and be safe. -
Good Luck Y2K!!! I hope this new job is everything you want. Take care and keep us informed on how it's going.

Thanks guys,I hope so and I hope all works out for you too.
If things don't pan out for me I could wind up back at May,certainly not a bad place to be. -
Even tho you have found a new position I would hope you don't leave the may thread, I always enjoyed reading your post! Curious who you went to work for, I do understand if you don't feel like posting the information as well..
.. Keep in touch and be safe -- Trucker Steve

Hi Steve,I'll be hang'n around and hope I see ya at a coffee stop somewhere someday.
I'll still be wave'n at May trucks but from a big orange pumpkin.

I'm on my last day of orientation in Portland at the SNI OP center here.
The account I landed is Dollar Tree from the dist ctr in Ridgefield,WA.
I couldn't have gotten a gig closer to home, look'n forward to being home every weekend too,I'm told I'll be getting a good workout every day but that's ok I can use it lol.
See ya out there brothers!

Very cool brother good to hear your happy. Keep in mind tho, that in trucking companies, as quick as the open Supply chain management HUBS they close them twice as fast! (accounts come and go, OFTEN!) Only reason I bring it up is so that you have a back up plan if in the event that does happen. I'm sure you do!
I find it a little Ironic about 2 weeks ago I sat in on orientation (1 guy in class) Who was a 10 year Schneider driver coming to May! He worked some account out of the Portland south WA area he was home daily, that washed up. They wanted to lower his rate and put him on some other account were he would be home on the weekends (hmmm maybe your DC?)
Funny - Sometimes trucking is like the NBA you have to give away a guy in trade for another, or so it seems. Will keep in touch for sure.. If your ever in the LA area send me a message ! Take care brother!Civilservant Thanks this. -
Heh,interesting and who knows it could be.
Anyhow I gotta give it a shot and my backup plan is pretty simple.
I can always drive Western 11 again either at Schneider or go back to May as I did give notice and left on good terms with a open invitation to come back.
I'm still looking at this job as a stepping stone to get enough experience to land a good local home every night gig eventually.
I'll need that 2 years experience level and this job just might bridge the gap plus the retail delivery experience can only make me more marketable when the time comes.Last edited: Feb 4, 2011

Y2K Thanks this. -

Keep the rubber side down and the shiny side up my friend.
