Back to Square One?

If you still really want to do OTR I would try Werner(they have a good training program)
.My son is in training with them and his trainer is awesome and very thorough .He didn't start phase 2 till his 5th week;now he is the designated night driver(he likes it because there's a lot less traffic).
I think I read in one thread that if you like driving so much that you would drive for free; then this might be a good job choice.Before he started training to drive big rigs,my son put 30K miles on his own truck,he just likes to drive.That 30K was running his friends all over cause he was always the designated driver(doesn't like to drink or do any drugs) Now at least he's getting paid for doing what he was doing for free before lol!

 

I went to a trucking school, years ago at a community college. It was over 2,000 dollars 11 years ago. I don't know how much it costs now. There is funding available. It was an 8 week program. I then trained with a Swift trainer great guy. It takes years to learn everything and still learning. I wrote yesterday about hours at Southern Cal things are looking better. I get home every weekend, and that doesn't happen often. I also have been on the bus a few times with some companies. Don't give up. I have lost jobs due to the companies losing runs, among other things. Something will work out.

 

I think we need a recap here.

You spent 6k on a school with zero help.
You trained on an automatic because the manual training was extra
You failed the backing test how many times?
You got turned down by werner, and a few other because of 'something' in your background.
You failed the Roehl road test, because you allegedly hit a curb..
You decided to go home on your own rather than wait for your phase 2 trainer.
Your phase one trainer didn't let you drive at night..
You failed to let your phase 2 trainer know how tired you were (before or during driving)
That 6K school you went to didn't bring you out at night..

Did I miss anything??

I thought phase 1 was getting your CDL. Phase 2 was having a trainer give you enough knowledge to not to kill yourself or others.. Personally I had a great trainer, but I have learned more since I went solo.

I will say one thing for you.. you have perievence. Most folks would have given up alreadyy.. though I still think the Lord, Our God, is trying to tell you something and you ain't listening..

 

Just my opinion based on what you have posted, otf. I think you gave it your best shot, and need to move on with your life. Nothing to be ashamed of. A bit to regret, I know, (six grand plus your time.) But I really think you need to move on to something else.

Not everyone is able to become a truck driver. You tried very hard, it just did not work out for you. I admire your effort.
Go to plan B. Find another occupation. Good luck.

 

Why did they turn you down? My son had a less than perfect abstract and they took him.

 

I don't know what to tell you other than it's always darkest before the dawn.Don't give up and keep trying if not trucking,what other jobs are open in your part of the State? Check Craigs, list Monster job etc;what did you do previously?I think one of the reasons my son got hired with his less than perfect abstract is that he has no wife or kids to tie him down,he can be gone for months at a time and stay in touch with his friends on facebook and via cell phone.He's loving his OTR training getting to see the 48 states and making $ too. I'm sure that if he had a kid he would want to be home like you.
