First of all,, buy a unit made for truckers. Tom toms, some garmins, etc are made for cars. They don't have things like weight restrictions, height restrictions, etc.
I use the Rand Mc Nalley T700. It's identical to the 5", but the larger screen is easier to read small digits, especially in the dark. Also the audio is better than the 5".
They do a great job of updating the systems, and currently the updates are free.

GPS is for a quick reference of your route or upcoming intersections.

Use the cheapo GPS, but don't rely on it for accurate TRUCK ROUTES.
Use your MC Atlas for routing and planning your trip.

do you guys ever have a problem w/ the gps that it wants you to get off the highway, and then only to get back on.

    - at one point it wanted me to pull into a bus roundabout instead of just turning left.

Searching for 3 letter terms is not possible without changing some settings.

Perhaps they don't know the other posts exist.

And bingo was his name-o! Unless and until the forum admin makes an exclusion list for the no 3-letter word search policy so that searches for the term 'GPS' actually return usable results, threads like this one will continue to pop up every week and half.

And every week and a half, the horror stories will continue to get posted about a guy who knew a guy who had a friend who burned his eyebrows off when his GPS made him drive his load of Bic lighters right through the middle of a dynamite factory. And every week and half those horror stories will be counter balanced by those who use regular old auto units every day and never have a problem because of it. And every week and a half both of those groups will be drowned out by everyone else who answers any and every GPS related question with just get the Rand Mc Nalley unit and be done with it.

Some of these threads are like C.B. chatter in a truck stop!:biggrin_25523: All a guy has to do is ask a simple question and sit back and listen to all the B.S. :biggrin_25521: I do appreciate all the CONSTRUCTIVE comments.:biggrin_2558:
