I'm doing some research on Pilot, Flying J and TA/Petro. Can you guys help give me a feel for what the industry reputation for each of these brands is? I've head Petro was premium and Pilot is the lowest price competitor?
Do truckers typically just fuel at a single chain to maximize rewards points or do you go wherever you happen to be when you need diesel?
Do all the different chains have repair shops? I know TA/Petro does. Are all the different chains basically very similar products with very similar amenities?
Any information about the Flying J merger going well or poorly would be helpful too. Thanks,
Krishan

If my truck needs gas.... We will have a problem! -
No kidding! That would mess that truck up pretty fast!
-
Can you tell I'm from the general public?
-
Trucks haven't used gasoline in nearly 50 years or better. They use diesel!
-
Fuel is the term you want to use!
-
I try to buy fuel from whoever has the best price on it. With a truck that only gets around 5.5 mpg every penny counts. Pilots and Flying J don't have a very good reputation. The merger hasn't gone over well with most of the drivers I talked to. I try to stay away from most Pilots because of their parking or lack of it. Lately Loves has had the best price on fuel.
-
Some of the larger companies have deals worked with certain truck stop chains so their drivers will pretty much always fuel at those chains. The smaller fleets and O/O's will generally go where they can get the best price.
-
Ok.... So instead of being a smartarse.... I'll give you my answers.
You heard wrong.
That all depends. Most company drivers fuel where ever they are told to fuel. So they will maybe put 75 gallons in at a Pilot this morning. Then 125 gallons in at a TA this afternoon.
Owner Operators generally fuel where they feel they get a decent price with better customer service & amenities.
No they don't
Again, no they aren't. Pilots & Flying J really have no ammenities & they treat their customers like trash... That is the reason why I choose not to use them unless it is a desired emergency.Trilleth Thanks this. -
Can you give me the right answer? Does fuel cost vary location to location so there is no reputations regarding price points? Is there a brand widely considered high end even if it's just on the retail pricing stuff?
So for a company driver it's all the same? And I guess most companies have agreements with all the travel centers so they just switch to whatever makes sense on the fly? I didn't realize company drivers didn't choose where to stop. That all depends. Most company drivers fuel where ever they are told to fuel. So they will maybe put 75 gallons in at a Pilot this morning. Then 125 gallons in at a TA this afternoon.Click to expand...
I tried to find it but it doesn't look like Love's has repair shops either. So just TA/Petro?Owner Operators generally fuel where they feel they get a decent price with better customer service & amenities.

What do you mean by amenities? Are the food choices different between the different plazas?Again, no they aren't.
