I would not even consider CR. That should help narrow your choices down.:biggrin_2556:

What monkey boy said!!!!!!!!!!!! While you are at it stay away from SWIFT too!

And the first part of your question is correct. They can help you find a job or you can apply to companies like Roehl, Schnider, etc.

I'm at FVTC now, and we have recruiters come in almost daily. Over ten weeks training, I expect to hear from at least 30 recruiters. Upon graduation, I will once again be considered a "student driver" by the company that hires me, as they'll pair me up with a trainer for 4-8 weeks until I can demonstrate my abilities. But I don't feel that's the main point. If you complete at least 160 hrs. in a school and get your license. You should have NO problem finding work. I'd bless FVTC as you'll get plenty of BTW time for backing, and at least 1,000 miles OTR. All for just $1,700. You've come to a good place for information and oppinion. So welcome, and good luck!

While being paired with a trainer is not only for a company to feel comfortable with one's driving skills (you would be surprised at how many go through school and are unsafe) it also gets you ready to be on the road and learn how to live on the road. You will learn more than you think. It's totally different driving on your own. It also helps the newbie to feel comfortable driving in all kinds of road and traffic conditions.

Thanks Whisper, while/after reading it, I knew there was ALOT more to it. CDL school, while important, is only a stepping stone to what we'll encounter on the road. Didn't mean to sell it short.

Fox Valley tech is a pretty good school. I know everyone on here tells newbies to go the private route and not thru a company. But, Roehl has a good school. I went thru it and now as a trainer at Roehl I love getting a student that went thru it. The classes are small so students get alot of wheel time. The students I get from there are very well prepared. Also, if you stay long enough it is all reimbursed so it did not cost me anything. I've also heard decent things about Schneider's training.

In my experience as a trainer my favorite place to get a student from is:

    1. Roehl's school RDTC
    2. New England Truckdriver Training School (NETTS) in CT it is a long and expensive course but these guys can drive when finished
    3. A Tech School
    4. The last resort. A CDL mill like Roadmasters or CDI. These places will cost you a lot more money and you will not learn much.

Do not go to CR England. If you through a company pay attention to the contract they have you sign if any. Some are resonable, some are insane. I know JB Hunt recruits Roehl students. "When you are done training with Roehl come work here and make 40 cpm" I love when these guys think
I'm the student when they do their recruiting deals at truck stops. I love messing with them.

You didn't come across like that at all. Just trying to point out a couple of reasons why its good to go with a trainer. Good luck!:biggrin_255:

Bucks is this the school Roehl sends people to? I'm waiting for the go ahead. Carrie said she will set up the school for me. Hey by the way, Roehl won't set me up with my husband as trainer. That's ok because he probably would make me too nervous. Do you know if there are enough female trainers? Thanks.

thanx you for all the info.....im still trying to understand if there will be costs to me to learn to drive after i pay for a cdl course like fox valley?

the companies that might hire me as a newbie driver with no over the road experience...are they going to charge me to learn to drive or is the $1700 i payed for tech school my investment?

    thanx again
