Olhand, my profile is correct. I never said to run for the starting gate when it gets opened. My comment was in jest, and yes, you are the Captain of the ship, so to speak. Drive it YOUR way, I agree. There are so many posters on here complaining of lack of miles and low paychecks, that I thought I would stir up the pot a bit with that comment.

Rolled that way with that light as air roofing insulation from Firestone out of SLC. You know the one? Used to be tarped (now has that white plastic shrink wrap) like a big black sail? Weighs 8600 lbs stacked 13'6" high! Woo Hoo! US 30 saved my butt in only 20 mph sustained winds!

Speaking from the standpoint of a moronic 4wheeler, let me say that there are particular reasons I prefer a very early morning shift. Around here, we don't have a lot of worries as far as mountains are concerned, but if I feel the roads are bad, I prefer to leave home 2 or more hours early to avoid all the SUV's, 4 wheel drives, etc. I may get to work way early, but I've always made it.

I prefer to respect the weather and the road conditions, rather than test the limits of my skills at avoiding the other moron drivers who "didn't realize the roads would be that bad" and left at the same time they would in good weather.

This is between Conway and Little rock. And this is about 8 hours after they opened the roads back up.

Ask a dead driver who died in a bad weather accident if it's a good idea to run on bad roads...

I know, I know. Sounds like I'm pickin' on this guy, but I can't help it!:biggrin_25523:

This is in the 'Accidents' thread:http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...133145-another-super-trucker-w-video-his.html

Most places this woulda been 'too fast for conditions'. I DO like the fact that we almost got to see his disaster. Maybe if they had some software that showed when the actual crash took place, we could have a 'live' video. This one came close...

Depends on the situation and the road, I've only twice had to sit out a road closer while on the road. Once heading back to Denver on 80, stuck in Laramie # Wal-Mart for 16 hrs because Summitt and 287 were both closed. When they finally got 287 open, it was another hr before I took off, traffic wasn't bad. But Ft. Collins and CSP did the smartest thing ever. At the 287 turn on the W. side of Ft. Collins, there was a Trooper sitting in the intersection, he roll trucks through the intersection for 5 minutes, then stop the trucks and roll the 4-wheelers to clear the intersection, then do it again. The 4-wheelers were all locals so they figured out the detours quickly.

Then when you got into Ft. Collins, at each intersection, there was a cop directing traffic to keep the trucks rolling. They did that for 3 hrs that day to get us back on the road, it was another 5 hrs til the finally got 80 open between Laramie and Cheyenne.

Generally, if it's open I don't want to sit and wait, I don't get paid by the mile, but I get bored quickly when I can't roll. I'll take my time and go, but often times, it comes down to confidence in your ability and your equipment.
