Hi, I am new here and I hope that I can ask this correctly. There are about 14 of us with motorcycles,we will be going across country to Colorado. The owner operator is asking for copies of our drivers license, registration and vehicle title along with a letter allowing the bikes to be transported to and from Colorado. It has raised some concern with a few guys.So my question is, Is all this information necessary?

He wants to insure he is not transporting stolen goods, I would be OK with everything but the title. If he demands a copy of the title, I would write void across it with a Sharpie. I would check with my insurance company and be certain I was covered. I would also want to see the truckers policy. I would also be very interested in the method of securing the bikes in his trailer.

A copy of the registration is fine. That shows who the registered owner is and the legal owner, such as the bank etc.

That's very true. When I used a bank many years ago when my trucks and cars were paid off I got the tittle in the mail. That was from FL, CA, and NV.

OK, this sounds to me like something isn't right here. I am wondering just how "reputable" your "owner operator" is. You just might end up losing your motorcycles and having your identity stolen as well.

Are you by chance, a tour group of foreigners? This doesn't happen often, but I can see some low life taking advantage of foreign travelers who might not know exactly where to turn for help.

As was posted, I could see them wanting a copy of the registration and a letter allowing transport. But nothing more than that.

Again Thanks a lot Guys, First we are not foreigners, the owner operator is a friend of one guy in the group. When we were asked for all this info a flag went up with some people as to why. With your help I have had all questions and concerns answered.I have a customer that was transportation for a big corp. he also said NO need for a title,I am going to talk with our owner operator and discuss what will be given.I think that a letter from all owners of the bikes giving permission to transport to and from will be the most important item and a copy of the registration with the word void across the paper will be the only other information he would need.
If I remember I will let you know how this works out.
    Thanks again

Asking for a copy of the title is the same thing as asking for a copy of the registration. Matter or fact at the top of the Registration it says Title in that same sentence. I forget the exact wording...
