Yeah, a lot of buildings torn down on River Rd and replaced with 2 story structures(retail downstairs, apartments upstairs),thanks to the River Rd Improvement Corp.,the latest to go was the old Kem factory, corner of Maple and RR,it's just a big pile of bricks now.

Congrats. :D What was orientation like, anyway? Is it much different for those of you with more experience than total newbies? Been trying to get some feedback from those who recently went there and am curious what I'm getting myself into. :)

    Quite a bit.

It depends on your experience - you appear to have none. CDL students spend a week doing paperwork, physical exams and some basic classes, and testing to get your CDL permit. After that, its out with an instructor for a couple of weeks of instruction, back to Springfield for some work on the pad, then its time for a road test leading to your CDL. After that its 50,000 miles with a trainer.

An experienced or inexperienced (with CDL) driver will do the paperwork, physical exam, and a different set of classes that you'll go through when you do your upgrade after training. Basically, for an experienced driver, its three days of orientation, then either you choose a truck or go out with a trainer for a couple of weeks. An inexperienced CDL holder will go out with a trainer for 60,000 miles.

Nailed it on the head there. :) How many students is the average in the beginning anyway? I've read forums about X percent of students being turned away, but how many normally attend orientation to begin with? Is it a crowded environment? Thanks for the quick reply.

Couldn't say with any degree of accuracy. Not everyone makes it through - for a variety of reasons. Crowded? No... unless there are more bodies than seats on the bus between the main terminal and the Campus Inn.

From what I saw at orientation those that got sent home were all for either one of two reasons (or a combination of both)... either they lied or tried to hide something in the application process and/or the recruiter didn't do thier job properly.

We started with 17 & ended up with 11... all of one of the above reasons.

Fortunately I had a real good recuiter that did everything she was supposed to do, just the way it needed to be done & had zero issues.

What would a recruiter fail to do that would send a student home? :biggrin_2554:
