I don't recall anything changing at truck stops in regard to 9.11.2001. Often the same old crap, just a different day.

I think you are talking about the small truck stop near the Flying J? If so, it is mostly a diner. The tire shop is still there, but the fuel has apparently been turned over to foreigners. They sound like they are from the Middle East. Fuel is a lot cheaper than the Flying J. There isn't much truck parking and no showers, but I have never had a problem find a spot. Most of the trucks who frequent the stop are locals who stop, fuel or eat and leave. You can see some reefers stopping by to buy fuel. The food is still pretty good.

I just started to be more careful with my truck after 9/11. I even lock up my truck at the fuel island. Any time that I am out of the truck it is locked unless I am standing right outside.

I can name a few. The Gambler, US 30 near Valparaiso In. There used to be a small Union 76 on US 30 West past the US30-US31 junction. Gallahans Travel Plaza in Peru IN. The Blue and White west of Indianapolis. There used to be a small truck stop that sat on a hill off I80 in Iowa. May have been around the 238 mm. They had a billboard that advertised a 16 oz steak and all the trimmings for $7.99 and if you bought 100 gals of fuel it was $4.99. Used to stop there every time I could. The old truck stop on US 75 north of Sherman TX. Man, they had good coffee there. Being retired I have time to reflect on the last few years in trucking and anybody that thinks it's better now just never knew what a good time it was. The truck stops played a major part in that as there were more Mom and Pop stops than majors and they depended on the trucks for their livelihood. It just ain't that way anymore. I for one ain't too sure it's for the best, and the times are gone anyway but the memories! That's one thing they can't take away.

Been mentioned time and again, Johnson's Corner.

Also, way back in the 70's we lived in Columbiana, Ohio. There was a 76 truckstop on the N. side of town, my parents would stop there for dinner once a week. I've been told it was an interesting place, full of interesting people.

I've parked in that skeleton when sleep dictated it. Nara Vista is a ghost town except for that kook that has all of the old cars with the no trespassing signs...sad. Even Logan hasn't much.

How about the old Peggy Ann's in Rockwood, TN on US 27 ? It's long gone. How about Noble's in Kentucky north of Lexington off I-75? Last time I was there they pumped the fuel and the waitresses were still pourin' coffee. Just reminiscing ...

Peggy Ann Truck Stop used to have good food. I think the interstate killed that truck stop, like so many others that used to dot the American landscape. I believe there is still a repair shop, but the truck stop has been torn down. That used to be a very busy truck stop.
