Ummmm, cause its the internet and its real easy to claim youre 10' tall, drive a Ferrari, is worth a few million, has family that are all lawyers and will sue me. Plus they are better looking than Tom Cruise.

Ive actually seen a couple newbie guys from this forum out and about on the road. Although in general they do a pretty good job. Its funny to watch them. Some back to a dock at 50 MPH, I guess they think if they do it really fast nobody will notice their shortcomings. Some get out and run around the truck 20 times before putting it in the hole. All of it is good entertainment.:biggrin_2559:

ALL OF THEM give themselves away as a newby.

i have decided to enter the trucking industry ( leave for werner in 24 hours) i know nothing about the industry or very little. im not going to make off like im a better driver ( i just want to be a safe driver ) and i am not going to tell some new or experienced driver how or why they should do something, ( im the one thats learning) will i make mistakes , yes i will , we all do.

in fact i hope some of you with years of experience can give me some pointers when im out there on the road alone and lost, broke down, home sick, or have no clue as how to back into that dark ally thats at an 70 deg angle.
sorry i jacked your thread, but im not like every new wanna be driver. i want to learn the right way with out being a pain in the arse

You can find these types at the truck stops.
The old timers have the best stories. Usually one or two but they're detailed and pretty interesting. Commandos have a story for everything. They're not very detailed, nor interesting but they are very long..and for some reason they think you need to hear it.

I try to keep my stories to a minimum.

Oh..yeah.. in CDL school I out performed our classroom commando academically and he was rather upset. I've always been a bookworm so doing well on classroom tests is something that I'm just very good at. I really didn't know how well I was doing academically compared to the rest of the class. I only wanted to do the best that I could do. We had a big trip planning project complete with routing, logs, filling out BoLs, etc. In the history of this assignment only 1 person had scored 100%. Well in our class, it was announced that one person in our class also scored 100%. Turns out it was me. (much to my surprise, actually). Our classroom commando was livid.

I sure agree with the wishing you were younger part lol! A better memory would be fantastic! I'll be learning about life, trucks and all else till the day I die. It's an adventure. I can't count the things I've learned from the old timers, mechanics and am still learning. Changed out my first turbo this year, learned that "plumbers water well" and emery cloth can stop a fuel tank leak (we hit some pretty high sand bars heading into turn rows, so there's no slowing down) and it works on radiator leaks too. That's only a few of hundreds of things I've learned so as for me keep the tips, tricks wisdom and advice coming! The newbies, and I still consider myself one even though it's been close to 6 years driving just need to listen and learn. It'll keep ya safer and keep your loads movin if you keep on growing:)

I am sure you are right about there being experienced drivers who behave like a holes (have to watch the language here :biggrin_25525:) when dealing with new drivers, just as there are a holes in any profession. I would hope they are the minority in trucking, just as newbies with some sort of morphed Napoleon complex are. I'll better tolerate a know-it-all a hole who at least has driven trucks for a few years, rather than a know-it-all who has just started. I was raised to pay attention and to at least listen to what people with the experience are saying to you, and then using common sense -and my intuition- to make a good decision. "Are alarm bells going off in my head? Hhmmm...may want to rethink this." lol My parents also beat into...urrrr, ahem...taught me "don't let your mouth do your talking for you ('cause we will slap it right off you) boy!" :biggrin_25524:

I think it has to do with the following principle...The two most scariest things in the world,IMO,is a 19 year old with an M-16,and a 24 year old DOT cop,as both think they have something to prove,-and want to impress their bosses.. Very bad combination......:biggrin_2554:

Do you feel more safe around the 19 year old with the M-16? :biggrin_255:

Why is it WRONG? Nowhere in my states CDL manual does it say that the various parts of the brake test must be performed in any specific order. And furthermore the order they happen to list the steps for the brake test is the order which your student was attempting to perform them.

Is it documented in your states CDL manual that the various parts of the brake test must be performed in the specific order which they state and doing otherwise will result in a failure?

And even if it is, why didn't you allow the student to complete the brake test and then tell the student what he did right and tell him what he incorrectly and why he would have failed if he had been taking the test for real. Don't you think that would have resulted in a much more effective exchange of knowledge and a higher quality of learning by the student?

Not for nothing but it sounds to me like you wanted to knock your student down and make him feel stupid and you were going to do that any way you could. What does your principals of teaching manual say about making your students feel stupid?

Well, since you included a comment I made in your post, I shall respond to you.

First of all, calling an old timer an old timer is the same thing as him calling me a rookie, or wet behind the ears. They are both fact. I don't take offense to it, and they shouldn't either.

Secondly, the disrespect that is doled out here to the newbies is riduculous. Everybody did something for the first time, and just because some of you did it before me, doesn't give you the right to disrespect me because of it. Don't forget where you started. When I deal with drivers in person, NOT A SINGLE ONE has done anything other than help me out. For example...how the heck to get my hood to quit rattling. lol. Thanks driver! It worked!

    And C...

When you hear people that talk about how negatively truck drivers are viewed by the public....and why I have to deal with that crap on a daily basis...

REMEMBER...you "experienced" drivers are the ones who killed the reputation of the trucking industry. ;)

    Two way street thing, right?

I have to go...I have chains to throw, and tarps to roll.
