delete post please this is useless with a bunch of cry babies who get off subject

I have to say that if you get brought into the scale and they check to see your governed and you are not it will come down upon you. I realize each province is different for governed speeds but Ontario and BC are huge on checking that at the scales.

well i'm gonna go ahead and get a box installed so it can be switched over its another program installed in the trucks computer and cant be seen from plugging it in thanks though

I shouldn't get into this discussion, but I thought I might save you from getting fired from your job or at the least save you some money.
The ECM records speed..........it's called a history. Now I'm don't know exactly how it's done with a Cummins ECM, so I going to describe to you what CAT does. I'm going to assume Cummins is very similar.
You can change the governed speed easily in the parameters. But you cannot delete the history of your recorded speed history without someone seeing the history changes. The history is used to monitor driver behavior. How fast did the driver go. How many hours did the engine idle versus the hours driven. How is the driver shifting and at what RPM. How fast is he driving versus engine RPM. Fuel mileage. Average speed. The average speed traveled for the number of hours the engine has been running. CAT actually has these records of history in two different ways in the ECM.
When you try to delete these histories, it goes back to zero on all the things being monitored............not just the speed. So the next time you come in for service and the owner has the shop pull up your driving history and it's blank or only shows the truck has been driven a 100 miles............someone is going to get suspicious and know that the ECM has been tampered with. If your boss has his own service facility with the electronic diagnostics for the engines, he's already watching the history. If he's small and doesn't monitor history............you maybe able to get away with this. The first time you come up with a speeding ticket or in your case a possible ticket for a speed governor not set properly........you'll have some explaining to do.........the second time you're caught doing one of the above, I'm sure you'll get fired.
Now here's where it could get interesting..........if you get in an accident with serious injuries and the police decide to do an accident reconstruction investigation. Whether it's your fault or not............you're going to get caught with the altered speed governor..........if you were speeding at that time of the accident or prior to it. You are going to be the one everybody sues and be prosecuted for criminal charges. Do you think it will look suspicious to the witnesses and people that stopped to help when your frantically trying to hook a laptop up to the truck after an accident? When the history read zeros while doing the accident reconstruction..........do you think it will cause any problems? Do you think the owner of the truck is going to stand in court while being sued for millions of dollars and tell the court that he had the speed governor set up for you to drive faster? You also may not realize it, but he may have the speed limit set low, because he's getting a discount on his insurance.........he's going to have proof somewhere that it was set to his standard, not yours.
I know you aren't going to get into an accident.........I always thought that to until an 81 year old man came at me head on on a divided highway. He was suffering from Alzheimer's.........he only caused me to hit 3 other cars. Or the 18 year old girl who was texting while driving and ended up under my trailer and taking the front axle of the trailer out. When you're in an accident with multiple vehicles and a tractor trailer...........you should see the police and ambulance response.........especially when everyone calling 911 is telling them they think somebody just died
I know you don't want to hear it.......read it or whatever.
You might also want to remember if you do start doing these types of speed alterations in the ECM for others........you also become liable if one of them get involved in an accident, if speed is considered a contributing factor to the accident.
You think your buddy is going to go to jail for you in a vehicular manslaughter case, if he can move some of the blame elsewhere with a reduced sentence.......... to you.
Either get a job with someone that allows the trucks to run as fast as you want to drive..............or find another occupation with more freedom to do your job as you see fit to do it.Lilbit, PaulE, trucker_101 and 6 others Thank this. -
very good post mr haney--but i think you are talking to a brick wall,it might be different if he were from a different state or province--but he is from qc--one of the places where they do check the ecm at the scales---why he would want to play with fire like that ---who knows
trucker_101 Thanks this. -
Don't forget this On-board data event recorder they want mandated on all commercial vehicles.

To change govered speed on Cummins is easier then on Cat with complex password system. Anyway it is easy deal with Insite Software

Two years ago one guy from Scania Workshop disabled speed governor. Everething was ok till other driver got this truck. He was pulled over somewhere in Germany at 140 kmh. Cops called technician to check ECM programming and later dealer guy was fired, driiver got speeding ticket....and he had to pay for ECM reflashing. Punished twice!
