Anywhere from 0-4200.
This is a question often asked by almost every newbie. It's a little hard to explain to someone who is not familiar with trucking. There are too many variables involved in this question and it is pretty much impossible to know. You could seriously just make up a number yourself because that's how much weight it holds! A driver could get 4000 miles this week and 1000 next week. Hell he could tell you he got 8000 miles this week! Why, because the week before he forgot to turn his trip pak in! The week before that he broke down and is in the hole $250 because he's broke and got an advance. This is just a sample of variables, they are pretty much endless. An average driver with a year under his belt is capable of making $600-900 a week on the road. Could be a lot less, could be a lot more. That is what I would shoot for. Hope this helps.

very true chompi and with this economy who knows where things are heading. thats why i won't do L/O id'e rather go O/O but i'll wait and see if things pick up and get a few years under my belt. i figure for me right now a company driver is the safest way to go

I believe Chompi was talking about a company driver, not a L/O

I was home 3 times last week and slept in my own bed and still had 1805 miles.Could have had 2800-2900 if I stayed out,but since I got 20 from home I figured I can sleep here better.

You'll hear figures all over the place! Chompie's reply was right on. A driver may say he had a 3500 mi week, while he actually only drove 2500 that week but turned in another 1000 that was left over from the week before. Miles paid in a week and miles actually driven that week are occassionally not the same.
The RR can usually move freight for less per mile than what it cost the trucking company to have a driver move it. More and more trucking companies are going that route wherever they can. Out on the road you'll sometimes be on an Interstate that parallels a RR line, and its sad to be driving along side a train with an almost endless line of flatcars loaded with nothing but 53 ft vans. I recall driving on I-10 in West Texas and counting about 20 USX trailers alone on a train. Marten, Schnieder and trailers from several other trucking companies were this very long freight train's only cargo.
FM's and load planners will also have an impact on your weekly miles. USX gives drivers the option (sometimes you have to ask for it) of running in a defined region or running all 48. I've been in the Texas Longhorn Region and the Western 11 Region, as well as all 48. When assigned to a region the length of available runs could be limited somewhat. Also, the FM may want the drivers in a region to sign a waiver sacrificing some portions of compensation that remain unchanged for those driving all 48; i.e., the extra pay for stops in addition to the first and last.
Wish there was a clear and definitive answer for you, but as Chompie pointed out, there are just so many variables, some easily seen and some impossible to foresee, that trying to answer your question is impractical if not impossible.Last edited: Feb 15, 2011

Found this on the net -http://www.classadrivers.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-32753.html - it questions if 2000 miles a week is the new norm. Hopefully I will become a full fledged truck driver here in a couple weeks and was wondering on the OTR pay is 2000 miles normal for an OTR Team Driver? I understand what was said of the variance in miles per week but as an overall thing would it be fair to estimate that 2000 miles per week in the long run could be a fair assessment? Thanks for all and for anyone who answers. peAce

no ,,, 2000 miles a week for a team truck is not normal , its bearly good for a solo driver , im a solo and i drive at least 3500 a week ,,, thats not left over miles from the week before , its actually 3500 miles a week , thats only 500 a day , it can easily be done , 700 miles is usually the limit on 11 hour drive time

I would say you are doing pretty good if you are able to get 500 everyday. Is this OTR or dedicated?
