    Hi

    Let me introduce myself.
My name is Stefan, I'm 30 years old(young), live in Clinton/ Huron County close to Lake Huron.
I immigrated 7 years ago, originally I'm from Germany and 1 year ago I became Canadian citizen so I'm a dual citizen now.
I'm a fully trained carpenter (4 years apprenticeship over in Germany). Here I started as a carpenter but then switched to farm worker on a cash crop farm, were I'm still working.
And now I want to go into long haul trucking, because I wana see the country, want more challenge and to be on my own. My dad is heavy truck owner for almost 40 years and when I was little I basically spend my weekends with him on the road.
I know it is a hard environment out there, but I'm up to that challenge otherwise I wouldn't be here in an other country all by myself.
Since January this year I have my ACZ license. And one other good thing is, that after months of writing resumes I finally have a job as an trucker. My training starts in November. The company I will drive for is Ulch Transport out of St.Marys, Ontario.

I hope I will find a lot of answers here and I also try to give some if I can.

Thank you for letting me be here, for what I already saw and read I find that here is a great bunch of guys under one roof.

    Stefan

    Hello and welcome Stefan!

There is a forum here for Canadian drivers, and also one for European drivers if you want to see what you are missing!
Hope everything works out well with your new career, keep posting and let us know how its going!

Just curious, what part of Germany are you from, and what made you move (if thats not too personal a question?!)

    Hi Mrs.T
Thanks for the nice words and the welcoming.

No it is not to personal of a question. I'm from the south est part of Germany right at the Lake of Constance to the border of Switzerland.

Why I moved to Canada, hmmm let me think. My uncle immigrated to Canada 30+ years ago, so there was always a connection and I visited him a few times. In those visits I learned a lot about the country und liked what I saw.
Then after my mandatory army time, I couldn't get back into carpentry because there was a small recession in the construction sector. I worked then for 3 years as flight case builder and speaker case builder but that was not satisfactory. And so grew the plan to try it in Canada. There was some adventure to it, too. Also the idea to start from scratch in a new country.

    Hello Stefan

I was wondering how Ulch Transport is to work for. I just seen another posting up for them and after a quick search of the FMC-SMS web site I see they don't have a very good rating, as a matter of fact they have an Alert against them on the driver side. Most of the trouble seems to come from over hours and log violations.

Do they expect or push you to run over hours?
Would you recommend this company to other drivers?
What do you like & dislike about about them?
And what kind of runs are the normal for this company?

    Thanks
    Joe

    Hi Joe

First of all, I never started at Ulch Transport, which was at first very sad but now it was a good thing then so I was available for a better job.
Joe Wilhelm at Ulch Transport promised me a driving job after I passed the interview and the road test. We agreed that I am finishing my old job and then he brings me in for training. When I was ready and could have started with training he told me that he has no use for me anymore because he hired other drivers. So I am done with Ulch for good.
So I can't really say to much about how they run their operation. You have to make that decision if you want to drive for them. But for me if someone lies to me I am done with him.

For now I am driving Super B-Trains grain hoppers. Mostly grain and grain by products for Hurst Transport/ Gerrits Commodities Corp. I really like that job.

If you want to know a bit more about Ulch I could tell you what I got told at the interview, but if that is correct I can't say.

    Stefan

    Thanks for the reply

I'll just base my judgment on their safety record

Is that Lloyd Hurst Transport your at now? I've only heard good things about them. So it sounds like you did good
