going up wednesday for orientation in louisville, it seems like the moral of the story is dont go to california. i will say the reason i am leaving mason dixon and going to mercer is from talking to mercer drivers. they all liked the company and were straightforward with any complaints they had.(which were very few) havent been able to get any comment at all from any landstar drivers.
now that mason dixon group , their angle is if ya dont like it leave, so i did

well knowing how landstar works.....had a driver show me his actual pay sheet....that rate may be what is quoted but by the time landstar takes off all the deductions they are running about the same as us. If they were running for what sounds like a whole lot more all the trucks would be "fine and shinny" and they would dress a whole lot better than what I see out there on some dudes.....AND if really was that great no one would ever leave and I have seen ex-landstars pull into our yard for orientation.

They just want to be around you.

Don't let our sniveling deter you.....
Colorado, Wyoming, & Montana are states to never go into. In the winter time, California & Florida are pretty well covered cause some of the contractors don't want to get cold.
Me... I unloaded in Modesto, CA Friday morning. Took the weekend off thinking I wouldn't get a load because of the trucks surrounding me that unloaded earlier then I. Well, I got a call at 11:30 Sunday night and was offered a hot load... 109 miles paid nearly $800.00. Apparently all the other trucks said they had to discuss this load with their cordinator.... Since they needed a truck right then & there, they kepted calling down the line. I took the load. Then the agent backed it up with another load coming out of the consignee paying just shy of $2.00 a miles on 900 miles.
Although Mercer is suppose to be a first in first out company.... If a contractor bails an agent out, the agent will remember that contractor.....Magnum1 Thanks this. -
I think a lot of the trucks sitting must be waiting for the "perfect" load. I spent last weekend in LV with my buddy then he headed down to deliver in Camp Pendleton on Monday. He was immediately offered a load when empty, but was worn out and out of hours. Offered several he didnt want on Tuesday, finally taking one that loaded on Weds. Said there were Mercer trucks all over in Ontario. There are plenty of drivers with an "I don't go there, I don't do that" list. Don't go to the northeast, don't go to Canada, don't tarp, etc.. Back in Dec I deadheaded to So Cal from Phoenix for a great paying load that I knew no one would want. It had a 4pm delivery to the World Trade Center in Manhattan, followed by a second stop in Ottawa, Can. Called before I was empty and agent was thrilled to give it to me. I know there were over 100 trucks already out that way that turned it down. So come to mercer and don't be put off by some of the whining you may hear from drivers that have a reputation for being very spoiled, by their own choosing. Drivers from other companies sometimes refer to those drivers a Mercers RV fleet, with the big studio sleepers and such, where they can often not even haul 40,000 due to the size of the equipment.

How you doing Ray?
I'll go into NYC. I'll even wonder up higher...... But to get me north of Boston, it's got to pay decently.
I was one that refused to do the NorthWest. Now I'm going to Washington State.... So I broke down & bought tire chains at a tune of $433.00.
Canada is all yours.... I don't even have a passport. -
just brought a load out of Phoenix to Gastonia NC so I'm home overnight, hadn't planned to go home it just happened. Missed out on a load from NC to Toronto at 2.76, a shipper that usually pays well and has freight like that to ON & QC frequently. Last one I took to Casino du Montreal paid very well. light freight 15,000 at most. easy to tie down and even easy to tarp.
sure hope things pick up though, would like to have five loads to choose from after every unload. waiting a day or two after driving five days is okay, but not on short trips. Lots of stuff going to Colo but I got stuck with one of those loads out of Pueblo and didn't think much of it. Waited six hours to get loaded, then had to tarp in the dark. Not at all worth what it paid, and then it went to AR and almost the entire trip was off the interstate. I think waiting a day or two for a better load may have been better in that case, that stuff is just way too cheap.
have any truck issues lately? i have a bunch of stupid stuff all go wrong in Nov and it ate up money three times faster than I could make it, it was awful. -
we are going through the gorge right now and headed to Charleston think I said Charlotte earlier...oops

been stuck in ontario ta since last Monday. Does anyone else find sitting a week and a half without even getting offered a load sickening? Although on a brighter note the mercer truck beside me that got unloaded yesterday got the load I've been will-commit on for 3 days now. RE-DIC-U-LOUS. I think its about time to hang up the ol mercer hat.
totem Thanks this.
