Mine is also over 20 years old. I had it peaked and tuned when it was about 3years old. It was done across the street from the flying J in Amarillo Tx. It cost me about $15 I think, I added a noise cancelling mike shortly after & I have received "many" complements on the way it sounds & I know it's getting out there. Uniden pc76xl. And the watts are still about 5. So I think it all depends on who does it? :yes2557:

I do not know about the rest of you and I don't really care about radios all that much--mine is at least 15y/o-maybe more and this is the 5th truck its been in--so that oughta tell you how important radios are to me. But I wonder--because i hear guys talking about this shop or that all the time--I have also talked to a few shops and had a couple of things done to mine--here and there--mostly broke wires etc. But I am convinced if you had the time and took the same radio--into every shop you passed for a week or so and asked them to check it you would get that many different answers!
    Just my $.02

The older radios were constructed better than the chinese peices made today. Those old Cobra's & Uniden's will hold value for a long, long time.

CB people are pretty good at bashing each other. My thought on this is its because most of us are onetime customers to their shop and sometimes they will "milk" us a little.Best thing to do is find 1 repairman to do all your CB work, then either do without a radio or buy a cheap spare until you can let 'YOUR GUY" fix the broken one.

rjones56 is right....find a guy you trust and stick with him. He'll remember your business as well when it comes to writing the bill.

    Somewhat true ......

Just like anything else some new radios are very good however the SMT parts are much harder to work on. ONE THING that is becomming a problem is the chineese mike cords the plastic just peels off after a few years and replacing them is a bummer ....

Part of the reason they hold their value is the word of mouth between truckers and hobbyists alike that those "philly" radios are just that much better. In most cases, you can sell 2 Cobra 29 Classics, one Chinese & one Philippines made....the Philly radio will fetch $10 or more over the Chinese any day..

But you pay for it .....
