APU Inverter 2 hour limit?

there are some that still have a little of the old freedoms... but you are correct in that roehl makes rules because of the small numbers not the majority. THo I still can't seem to keep my foot off the floor! Can't get used to the 70mph beeps and the constant getting blazed passed by other supertruckers out here on the road. lol

 

This is the reason I am looking at getting out. I am so sick of the nit picky BS. I used to be able to route myself through Chicago based on traffic or what time of day it is. Now I have a routing that takes me through downtown at rush hour or 294 on a Sunday afternoon. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. Why don't I call my FM? Why should I have to wait half a hour while he gets an O.K. from the fuel dept? If one way is backed up I used to be able to route myself another way. I really get annoyed when they route me around the PA turnpike. I know it is expensive but I am working two hours for free when I have to run forty unpaid miles out of route and have to go on a bunch of 20mph, up and down hills, through a bunch of little town roads.

I've repaired a lot of inverters in my shop. The biggest cause of failure has been from excessive heat in the components. The big transistors usually fail in banks, rather than individually. And of course 3 or 4 cost more than 1...
The inverters that have vent holes and/or fans blowing through the innards get filled with dust and dirt, and that insulates the big transistors and circuit boards from the air flow.
Also, dirt in the cooling fins on the outside of the case does the same thing.
Inverters would last a lot longer if users would at least blow a few jets of air from a can or a compressor (don't hold the compressor's nozzle right next to the vent, don't wanna shake parts loose!) once a week or so. A stiff bristle brush can clean out the fins on the outside.
Make sure you're using a large enough gauge of wire to feed the 12 volts to the inverter. And remember that appliances with motors or big heaters can draw 3x their running current just to start, so if you're going to run the inverter close to its rated output, fire up the fridge or the coffee pot before you plug in the TV.

i have no idea how they do the routing, ive tried asking and they say it depends on alot of stuff, your fuel in the tank, your mpg,lots... they say you and another driver right next to each other will get different routes,, why?

makes no sense, ill drive back and forth,then one time i go off the highway on side roads, hitting 25mph roads and stoplights, that cant help the mpg's

 

Thanks Handlebar May have to try that out with this new one..We only ever ran a coffee pot off the old one and we never had issues with it.

 

well its true. I just got 1 of the new prostars. Great truck but the inverter does shut off after 2 hrs and the heat after 12 or so. other than that I'm happy as can be with this truck. as far as the routing. If I know a better way I have never caught crap from them about running it. for the last 2 out of 3 months I drove fewer miles then I was paid for. but over all ... I've driven for a lot worse.

 

If there is a time limit on the bunk heater can someone please tell me WHY ???
If your stuck somewhere due to weather or doing a reset this could really suck if true.

 

Its not on the bunk heater....try reading. Perhaps you chose the wrong profession being you couldn't even read the thread title.

I keep coming back to this forum because it provides civil discussions and meaningful advice. There are other sites out there that read like the garbage coming out of the CB. That's all.

 

Yes it is true the bunk heater will turn off after 12 hours on the newer units that run the heat through the APU control. The trucks with a seperate bunk heater there is no limit on, only the new ones.
